Re: AntiVirus Poll 2007

Why no option to choose Zone Alarm Pro?

Nod 32. Originally I was a long time KAV user, but v. 6 didn't play well with my set up on Win 9x. I liked it so much that I moved it to XP and will probably give AntiVir a go on the older machine.

Ack ! Is it poll time already ? Actually I just made a change - on my Windows partition I finally abandoned CA once and for all and replaced it with AVG free resident, still using BitDefender free on-demand, although neither sees the light of day much anymore. They are, however, both up-to-date (as of yesterday).

I voted for and use AVG on my daughters system, Avast 4.7 Home Edition on my wife's system, and KAV on this system which is mine but will be going back to Avast 4.7 Home Edition by the end of this month.

On my home PC I running CA's EZ Suite, but it's about the expire and I won't be renewing it. The anti spyware is a major pain in the rear. I'm running ClamX on one Mac, and nothing on the other two Macs.

AVG free on my desktop and absolutely nothing on my Linux box. Never a problem with either.

AVG free. I'm starting to wonder if I should change to something else. It missed one of the newest trojans going around spam mail so I found a link to summit it [virus@grisoft.com] after confirming it was a trojan/virus [virusscan.jotti.org]. It showed up again in my mail a few days latter. AVG updates nightly. I have mail scanning on.

I'm running the NOD32 30 day evaluation trial right now. I got completely fed up with NIS two weeks ago and sent in for a full refund. Time to move on to something else.

Avast. Was using KAV, but found out that it was choking my connection speeds(Comcast, PowerBoost/PermaBoost @ 3.5MB/sec - 28mbps, choked down to 8.3mbps)... avast runs full tilt and doesn't slow anything down.

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Premium.

I tried NOD32 as well as Kaspersky before I tried AntiVir. I liked Kaspersky and AntiVir but AntiVir beat out Kaspersky @ av-comparitives by just a little bit. Avira doesn't update as quickly as Kaspersky did, but still several times a day.

One negative about Kaspersky, like dadkins said, was that it caused problems with my connection. On my Linksys WRT54G, if I had Kaspersky running and tried to save any settings on the router, Kaspersky would "block" it somehow. It took me 3 days with Linksys tech support, message boards, and just plain old tinkering before I finally figured out that Kaspersky was causing the issues.

So far, AntiVir is almost totally transparent (I had the update interval set to every hour and it would bog my machine down just a tad while I was playing BF2), and it doesn't have a bunch of extra bloat. It does have an email scanner that works very well, but nothing "extra".
