Re: AntiVirus Poll 2007

Voted "Other" using Active Virus Shield on my main machine. It's basically KAV free version from AOL, but available free to all. Should I have voted KAV for this?

Other machines on my network use AVG.

I'm not surprised that AVG is leading in the poll. It's the Norton of the free AVs. By that I mean name recognition. What surprises me a little is how NOD32 jumped ahead of NAV and KAV, and that KAV is behind NAV. I thought KAV would certainly be ahead of NAV. Especially here at the security forum. I'm glad to see NOD32 do so well, because I think it's an excellent AV. I just thought KAV was more popular here.

Re: AntiVirus Poll 2007

NOD32 and AVG free as a temp. Have a trial of NOD32 on 1 machine, 2 paid copies, and will probably get another for a laptop. The use of the trial version of NOD32 seems o be impressed with it. I've been looking at some "ratings" and it seems that NOD is panned sometimes because it doesn't have a "sexy" or pretty interface. That's no way to judge an AV.

KAV for me. I've been using it going on 4 1/2 years. Very good poll.

I use Norton AV Corp Edition
It has an old version 7.01 but the automatic virus updater still works fine.

I voted for Eset Nod32. This is my second year using it.

On my Vista laptop none, on my XP desktop none.

In all my years of using various AVs I've never gotten a virus or a warning from any of them so I've decided this year to go bareback. I also don't use any 3rd party firewalls, just the built-in Windows firewall configured for no exceptions.

I may be playing with fire but I do notice improved performance with no security products installed.

I recently tried NOD32, and really hoped I would like it since it seems to have good reviews. But it caused my machine to boot slowly. I couldn't figure out the problem, even with the help of the folks on the NOD32 forum. So I went back to AVG, which gets along well with my system.

I voted Nod32 and None which is 100% accurate.

Btw, how many are aware of virusbtn.com ? The professional AV test lab in the UK. If interested in AV effectiveness register (free) for their VB100 page(s). That will read Virus Bulletin 100% Award on their site.

Normally I do not run AV software. If I suspect a problem I will d/l the nod32 DOS test version and scan machines.

Nod32 . Have been using it for about four years, and although there's now some serious competition, I haven't yet seen or heard nything that would cause me to switch to another AV.

Extremely happy with it.
