Re: SpeedTouch 516/546/780 Group Buy, PART DEUX !! I got my 516 yesterday. Thanks. What should I do next? Should I install the CD first and then plug the 516 to the phone jack? I am still on Rogers but I am going to call Teksavvy later today to switch to their service. |

Just plug it in and start using, otherwise, just log into the modem and change your username and password and save! -- Rocky/TSIGUY - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

1 edit | reply to dub16v said by dub16v:This is agoooony, please do a GB #3 Yeah, I missed out too. It's great that TilhasBB organized #2. Damn, I never miss the boat. I decided enough was enough after the last Bell issue - too late to get in on the modem buy. Even though I know this would still have happened if I was with Teksavvy (ie the issue was Bell Canada's fault), Teksavvy's tech support wouldn't have been painful.
Rocky, the SpeedTouch 516 says "OS independent" but it has a setup wizard, and I read some discussions about people using a "CD" to install. If I get one of those, do I lose any features being on a mac (one that can't run windows). No other computers in the house. On my Speedstream 4200 I access stats etc via an IP address.
One last thing, the 516 and 546 - the difference being the use for multiple computers? Could I still buy a 516 and hook it up to a wireless router if necessary? I guess it would be helpful if I had a network printer or a few computers in a network? -- I am one hit song away from a million dollars. |

I guess it would be helpful if I had a network printer or a few computers in a network? The difference between the 516 and 546 is moreso to allow users to have access to a 4 port router built into the modem and not have to purchase an additional piece of hardware nothing more imo it's for users who do not currently have a router of their own -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »TekSavvy DSL |

The CD is more of an added bonus It has a few manuals as well as drivers if needed to set it up as 'speedtouch.lan' really not a lot more than that on it... -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »TekSavvy DSL |

| reply to bumbo I found the CD absolutely useless. There are no PDFs, and it wasn't obvious if the HTML documentation was usable. Tried to load a few html pages and they were blank or partly blank.
(I store those "critical" manuals on an old machine which I know can boot if the network is down).
So I went to the speedtouch.com web site, and managed to find the PDF documents (you get the html version, but then at the top there is PDF icon from which you can download the real documentation. |

 | For the 516 is there a way to make it connect using a normal connection created by Windows?
So far i can only use it through the speedtouch.lan thing.
I can connect with a connection i have created, but i can't access anything, and it disconnects shortly after. |

 Zeev20 join:2007-02-12 Kitchener, ON 1 edit | Hi Rocky,
It would be nice yes, I think most people missed out of the group buy because they weren't sure if they were running into issues with their Internet provider. (Throttling their download etc) until the group buy was over and it was to late to enter the group buy.
Personally I was late by one day as I was not sure if I really wanted to switch companies and now I do. I only really started looking into my other options last Monday and it looks like TekSavvy will be receiving my business.
I just want to get the best deal so to speak on an ASDL modem and the group buy seems the way to go. So yes I am sure their are a few people who sat on the fence so to speak and are kicking them selfs for not participating in the first two group buys.. |
