How many dialup modems should I keep ?
One. I have a USR Courier External 56k that I keep handy for such occasions. Love those modem tones.

How does 516 compare to 6520 when using on Optimax? If 516 can give me more stable performance, I'll pick one up too.

I haven't used the SpeedTouch models on higher speeds like yours, but they are a much better modem imo.

Plus you are not limited by crippled Bell firmware.

Worth the purchase!

Thanks for the reply.
So now I have to decide which model to get. I already have Dlink 624 router. Is it better to use Dlink 624 + 516, or just use 546 as router/modem together? I don't neccessary need wireless connection at the moment. But I have multiple PCs and a xbox360 connecting together, so I need a good realiable router. Will 546 does better job then the 624?

how would a 516 handle a line that has a low noise margin?

Would it be able to sync at a better speed than other modems, or would it make no difference?

I found that it gave me a more stable connection vs. my Gnet modem.

I purchased the 546 model due to the 4 Ethernet ports on it.

Would suggest the same for you, if you don't mind paying a few dollars more. The extra ports make it more flexible imo.

The 516 is also a modem and router, so it could theoretically replace your D-Link router - as long as you have a switch with a few ports to connect all the systems and the XBox to the 516.

Same here. Less disconnections than the SpeedStream 6520 I had before.

SNR numbers are better too, I think. This modem might enable you to get a speed increase, depending on the numbers you have.
