said by batterup :said by Dodge :And when your account gets capped or terminated for "excessive" uploading will they help you resolve the situation? Get off Cablevision, they are crooks. Agreed.
Cablevision is like the PSU that rates itself at 25c.
The PSU that is 700 watts at 25c, will go down to unstable 350 at 50c, which is a realistic temperature.
Cablevision's 10/1 or 15/2 or 20/5 or whatever silliness they try to run on their awful network gets dropped down when you actually use the connection they give you. They're not ready for the next generation of content. -- The Problem With Music.

Of course, net neutrality could alter that equation if it ever passes. The builders of the network are risking billions of share holder dollars. There is no way they will permit leaches to suck them dry. Pass laws that prevent network providers from making a sufficient return on investment and the investment will stop. |

1 edit | reply to davisx said by davisx :Here's a question, if I have to actually pay for content from this website, why the heck would i want to be uploading anything? They are trying to reduce their bandwidth costs at the expense of the ISP's bandwidth costs. I think they would lose in court claiming discrimination for blocking bittorent if the ISP blocks the whole protocol for all sites and not just specific ones. Of course, net neutrality could alter that equation if it ever passes. But personally I believe that an ISP can block a protocol and not a site and stay out of legal trouble. -- -- My BLOG My Web Page |

| reply to Dodge No, of course not. That is a trade off. A Good torrent client let you cap anything from maximum uploaded, to maximum rate for uploading.
And not everyone has a max data ul/dl cap. I don't have that much of a high speed internet, but I can upload all day long and they won't say boo. |

| reply to davisx To reduce the cost of bandwidth they have to charge for the product!
They could also offer incentives such as upload X amount and receive a free copy of a movie or equiviliant. Reduced bandwidth costs (or little to none at all) means reduced prices on media
