el oh el

quote:
DOCSIS 3.0, once certified, will offer downstream data rates of 160 Mbps or higher and upstream data rates of 120 Mbps or higher (per channel). It will also incorporate Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and offer a plethora of other performance and functionality upgrades.
Right now, cable can do a nice high upload.. but do we see more than 768 kbps? No. Do we see 768 kbps upstreams with cale ISPs without stupid "we can send out letters threatening discontinued service if you keep using it" - no.

Verizon needs to expand FIOS to the rest of the world. Imagine a world with no transfer caps, low pings, cheap 31/9.5, no enforcement of their TOS, that uses DMCA notices as toilet paper. That's a beautiful world.

If you think that Verizon will allow unlimited bandwidth on their FIOS service, you're dreaming. Might not be much of an issue now that there are relatively few users, but that will most likely change- any oversubscribed network can be impacted by high-utilization users.

Right now I think they're undersubscribed. I think I'm one of the ten people on this island with their service so far..
