Re: Unofficial Next Comcast Speed Upgrade Rumor Topic Part II

Testing is one thing, but how long it will take to implement is another.

Also does that mean I would have to get a new modem or would my current Surfboard 5120 be upgradable to 3.0?

Any present DOCSIS 2.0 capable modem will not be upgradable to DOCSIS 3.0.

Other whisper is that it is a thought for a new business class.

It's ok not to believe, Hob. I'm just repeating whispers. I don't have my heart wrapped around any of this.

Just think about all the new modems that will have to be purchased / rented. I don't believe there are any DOCSIS 3.0 compliant modems currently out on the market.

When I bought a new modem a couple of years ago I made sure I had a DOCSIS 2.0 compliant modem (Linksys). If I have to buy a new modem, so be it. It's a small price to pay for more speed!

Yes....I would like to know how they can get millions of modems in inventory to even start. The way it looks to me it will be years down the road.

The same way they do now. They buy them cheap and from many companies or the one that will give them the cheapest deal.
