Jon Purkey : Another option for turning on/off older TVs with the STB is to just plug the TV into the power outlet on the back of the STB. You may also need to select the option on the STB options menu to make it work if it isn't the default. This probably only works with TVs that have a manual power button/switch.

GeekGirl1 : Just got FiOS yesterday. Thought that was a bit odd. Thanks for the info.

Question: What about the ability to independently turn the STB off from the TV? With my ComCast remote, I could hit "STB" and it would power down without the TV doing anything. Now, they're both cycling together. Not good if I want to enter the diagnostics menu, which is Power Off then Select and watch the display at the same time (TV must still be on).
