What are some typical T1 prices?

We've been captive to the same WISP for 5 years now. Speeds have dwindled, no effort to offer tiered pricing, etc. etc.

My son and I are considering buying a T1 line. We "may" branch into a very mini WISP. Just curious about the latest pricing on T1's. Places to hunt? Ideas? Central Illinois. Thanks much!

Always best to hunt here at BBR first -- go to the ISP b2b forum and post a request for a T1 giving the first six digits of your phone number such as (123) 456-xxxx. You will have all kinds of offers (hopefully)!

Thanks. Didn't even know that existed. I used to haunt the WISP forums here years ago. Have sort of lost touch I guess!

We just dropped T-1s in Champaign for $365 a month. These were provisioned to a tower right off of I-74.

What I would do for a 365 dollar T1, best price here in Canada, is 900 bux a month, and that is with a contract, and in the city core. Outside of the city its 1300 bux a month, again with a contract.

Sorry for being lazy, but how many folks could I "share" with and still maintain T1 speed? I have about 5 neighbors in a 2-3 mile area that would love this (LOS is perfect). If memory serves I think a T1 can support a LOT of folks before appreciable slowdowns are noticed.

If we did this very low key and low $ what am I looking at? Thanks in advance.

We currently have 38 clients with packages at 384 and 512 with no complaints on a single T1.

I won't say how many people we have on two bonded T1's but it's FAR FAR FAR higher than 38. We've already signed the paperwork on a DS3 to be installed within the next two months. We do currently suffer from some prime-time slowdowns. Nothing to bad though. No one's been complaining about it to us, but it is there. Hence the move to a DS3 and to get away from $1250 T1's.

You'll definately be able to provide good speeds to all 6 of you and probably up to 30 without much problems, beyond that you'll probably want to use some kind of bandwidth control.

That's what we want, just a core group of about 5-6 people running uncapped. We have 500 down and that doesn't get it (especially for me and another guy). We started with this outfit uncapped about 5 years ago. That lasted for a good two years. (1500 up and down). Now we're capped and they offer no tiers no matter how hard we plea (and offer more cash). Frustrating. Really looking into this seriously.

Not looking to make money, just provide for ourselves and a couple other neighbors in the farm community. Just paying for the T1 is all we need to accomplish (and the equip I suppose). We own our current equip. Maybe our start up wouldn't cost too much?

Since you're lazy...!

Use this for you location:

with this antenna:

and a short jumper:

Now, at your "subscriber" houses use these:

These have the antennas built-in so you do not need another one.

Mount all of this stuff up as high as possible...higher is better. Some might suggest that you shouldn't use an omni but you probably have people all around you. If you get to 20 subs you should install another radio and use sector antennas.

Since you're lazy...if you took the time to read all the posts here about Deliberant equipment you would find that they get the job done. Many people here use them.

Normally they do not sell to "end users" but I think you might just find yourself being as WISP. Tell them you were referred by the forum. I am sure they have seen your post since they lurk here.

If you need more help, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info. I know there's a plethora of info here but I've not delved into it. Was looking for some ballpark figures and such as we've reached the point of total frustration. Really not looking to go into biz. Just want good net that we can afford. Thanks again (you may be hearing more from me in the future)

Thanks John. Curious what kind of range we could expect with the equipment you linked me to.

this kindof goes along with this topic. since local loop is the most expensive part of the t1 or any line, is there any way to find out where all the COs in a given area are?

Presuming that you have clear LOS and sufficient height on both ends...3 to 12 miles or so.

There are many factors but that is a pretty good guess.

YMMV, of course. Literally!

Thanks much sir! Perfect LOS and I need no more than a 2 mile radius (3 tops). Sounds like the ticket eh?
