Premium usage question

My friend an I both have a Teksavvy Premium account. Does traffic between us count against out monthly 100GB limit?

you mean sharing from you to him and vice-versa?
If so, it would count against the 2 of you, so you send him something that's 100MB then you'd both be dinged for 100MB of bandwith

Even though it's not going on the internet through Peer 1 or any other uplink?

It's a two hop trip entirely on bell's ATM network with a brief stop through Teksavvy's gateway. I was just wondering if Teksavvy's tracking software is smart enough to realize that the packets are not destined for the internet but one of their other customers.

The 100GB cap is because of the Peer 1 uplink, not the DSL line. If I switch over to my unlimited Teksavvy login the packets would take the exact same two hop trip.

It's probably technically easier just to count everything on that login name then figure out what data is actually going out on Peer 1.

if you guys are not in the same residence (using a local network with a router/switch/etc) it uses internet traffic and therefore it'll count against both of you...

This is correct... It's both easier and less stress on the equipment. We'd have to filter all traffic to figure out where it's destined to which would be a huge pain and additional cost to us.... That and even if you aren't costing web traffic space/costs you are still occupying space on the Fibre connections while they cross the Gig-Es which although costs less, it still costs....

Just out of curiosity, if we both had an unlimited login (*@dslinternet.ca) would it take the same path over the Gig-Es or is it routed slightly different?

It doesn't use "internet" traffic although (as Rocky said) it does count against our caps.

This is exactly the same as accessing Teksavvy's email server. The traffic does not leave Teksavvy's network using their internet uplinks.

me -------(Nexxia ATM)----- TS gateway ------(Peer 1 - 100GB Cap)---- internet

friend ---(Nexxia ATM)--------+ +---------(Cogent - Unlimited)---- internet

Both logins hit our main routers/switches and from there we route it out to the world if needed... So, you'd get the same performance between one another regardless of the network selected. The only difference between the capped service and unlimited would be when going out to the web...
