Keep in mind that, as un-1337 as this smurfette might be, there are still people out there in worse shape, that he can mess with. You just can't idiot-proof the Net.

I would have thought, by now, that routers would require a username/password change during setup.

Some do. Customers of Verizon FIOS have been getting an actiontec router for the past few months, and it forces a password change on first login. Trouble is, the default is admin/password, and support generally changes it to admin/password1. Remote admin is off, but that wouldn't stop that young whippersnapper on your lawn.

I bet he thinks AOL is the best thing since sliced bread.
I was messing with phone systems and hack/phreak before this
idiot was a twinkle in his daddy's eye.
Back then, people were into hack/phreak to learn about the
phone system, computer systems, and how they were all put
together and how they interacted with each other.
You didn't go in and damage anything, you left things
exactly as you found them. It's idiots like this that give
hackers a bad image.

There's a comic called Sherman's Lagoon, in it, a shark and
a fish pray to be turned into men so they can go to the
black hat convention in las vegas. So they get turned human
and the little fish says, now, don't do anything to embarrass
me here. The big fish says pshaw, I can hold my own with my
brethern. So they open the door and the big fish says:
"So is everyone here on AOL?"
Hackers response: "BANISHED!!!!!!"

I'm actually talking to the guy now via email. I'm going to try and turn his interest around and aim it toward doing something productive.

Wish me luck.

This 'hacking' business doesn't sound all that tough. I can get at 127.0.0.1 from MY computer!

Boy, is THAT clown going to be in for a surprise when he sees what I do to his machine!
