1 edit | Blown away by this WISP's setup!
I went out with the wife today for a drive, I was on a mission to find one of the nearby WISPs' tower, so we started at the in-laws town (where I would like to become competition), which had many panel antennas installed in it, most were low on TV towers or just attached to the fascia panel of houses, so we both figured the tower was nearby, or really tall. Based on a service area map of that particular ISP, we found it.
It wasn't nearby. It was a small 60-70 foot tower with 2 180 degree sector antennas on it on a guys fruit farm. I was blown away.
This guy was reaching stupid distances with this tower! several miles!
Its nice to see how others are doing it, but it makes me think Im going a little overboard in my plans at the same time. |

| Umm okay what do you consider stupid distances?
Most people woth 802.11B stuff ar running anywhere from 500feet to in some cases 10 miles?
I would never do anything past 6 miles max just becuase of the noise in our area.
So if you think a mile is to much you need to expand and research a little more.
We have a 13Db sector with 100mw radio for the AP and clients are about 50mw ( old smartbridge gear) with 19Db flat panels. -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor |

| reply to Inssomniak AHH so its the height you are referring to.. Well it just may be that the property sits high enouh above everything else and the added 70 ft helps even more? Without knowing the layout and the locations I can only speculate.. -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor |

| reply to Inssomniak If you can give the coords, we can decide if it is just a topography advantage (as viperm suggests) or if it looks like they are doing anything illegal. -- Are these instructions or corrections??? |

| reply to viperm I can speculate that the area is FLAT. Ive done my own (with help from here) projected coverage and its nowhere near that of theirs, with me using 100 foot tower with 30 foot clients.
Here is coords, for kicks.
Latitude = 42.8483, Longitude = -80.2840 |

Satellite photos of Cayuga, ON towards Lake Erie shoreline shows that some tree-tops will be inevitable in the path to most CPEs.
Otherwise, with clean LOS, I helped several WISPs do 3-5 miles across lakes and rivers with AP and CPE antennas both placed below 30ft, some at just 10-15ft. |

| reply to Inssomniak Here is what he should get with a 65' tower and standard EIRP.... Does it match what you see? -- Are these instructions or corrections??? |
