fox7 join:2001-02-12 Culver City, CA | SoCal, Slow Speed Now!! Suggestions?? Hi: I was a Comcast customer, then the switch to Time Warner. I was getting always around 5300kbs on the down. I moved across the street, directly across the street, from my 5300 connection and now the best I get is 2500kbs.
Is there anything I can say or do to get Time Warner to take a closer look at this issue?? They say I am with in spec. I did a tracert to Google and the times were all 2 digits, so why is my connection so slow???
Thanks for any help! fox7, a very sad fox7 |

fox7 join:2001-02-12 Culver City, CA | Hi again: I ran a Line Quality test last night and here are the results:
»/linequality/b···/2181284
Is Time Warner interested in helping fix the problem if I present evidence as in my result, or am I pissin' in the wind??

MacLeechThe one and onlyPremium join:2001-07-14 SoCal kudos:3 | reply to fox7 What connection speed are you paying for? Have you verified with customer service that you are provisioned with the correct file for what you pay?
For Culver City, TWC lists the following on their price sheet: Basic 1500/384 Standard 6000/384 Extreme 8000/768
It's only slow if you aren't getting at least 90% of what you pay for. -- Don't mind me, I'm just trying to help...

I am on the 6000 bps plan, and I am getting a little over 2600 bps. If I tell them about my line quality test will they do anything??

 | reply to fox7 you should troubleshoot everything else before calling twc. what are your modem levels? have you tweaked? tested with & without router etc etc etc |

fox7 join:2001-02-12 Culver City, CA | reply to fox7 MacLeech: Yea, I caught that last night and changed it.
Are you of the opinion as someone earlier stated... That a 30% packet loss on a RR router is not an issue??

It's a single router filtering ping packets directed directly at it. Packet flow THROUGH it is unaffected as you can see by the 0% loss on the hop right after it.
It's not a problem. -- Don't mind me, I'm just trying to help...

fox7 join:2001-02-12 Culver City, CA | reply to fox7 MacLeech: What am I going to say to get them to help me with what I feel is not correct, i.e. my, to me, slow connection. If I was getting what I was getting across the street before my move, I would not be concerned.

 | reply to fox7 I work for tier 2 tech support for Road Runner, and I know they have been having problems in the LA divisions for speed. I don't know why it's taking them so long to fix it though. |

fox7 join:2001-02-12 Culver City, CA | ms16: Thanks for the encouraging words. Let's hope that is what it is. I have phoned 3 times over 2 weeks and they aren't even willing to talk to me about my speeds, it is in spec has been there response. Last night I couldn't even make 2Mbs. They just shine me one with one story or another. I am hoping to find out what I should say to get a more positive response.
But if it is just the system state as of this time, and they are working on it... I haven't heard that. That does give me some encouragement.
Thanks, fox7 |

 | reply to fox7 What are you running that blocked the pings from the LQ test?
If you have a firewall or router, have you tried running the tests without it just to see if there is a difference? |

1 edit | reply to fox7 fox7, Today I looked to see if this issue was still going on, and it hasn't been updated in some time. I think the issue has to do something with the migration. But of course they don't tell us what causes it.
It's strange that they wouldn't tell you that there is speed issues. We tell everyone that it's a know issue, then we try a few things on their end to make it work faster. |

 | reply to fox7 I am having the same problem. I also moved a block away, where my down/up was at rated speed, but now my latency( oings) are out of this world! I am a gamer, and across the street i never had anything over a 55 ping. Now, everything is running in the 150-'200's. They tell me that is normal, but when i explain that for 5 years across the street, i never had the problem, and now, I move, and have the problem, they say it " cant be true, even though they can see the pings from tech. They say, yes that is high, but you flow to our office is all we care about.
I took my computer back across the street everything is normal. 55 pings across the board.
what the heck is up? |
