It was a small 60-70 foot tower with 2 180 degree sector antennas on it on a guys fruit farm. I was blown away.
Please ask WISP what type of equipment he is using at what TX settings. Take a few photos too.

Satellite photos of Cayuga, ON towards Lake Erie shoreline shows that some tree-tops will be inevitable in the path to most CPEs.

Otherwise, with clean LOS, I helped several WISPs do 3-5 miles across lakes and rivers with AP and CPE antennas both placed below 30ft, some at just 10-15ft.
