Free Proxy Servers - secure?

I suppose it gives you some security in that the websites you go to get the proxy IP not your IP.

But at the same time, are public proxy servers insecure in that the proxy server caches all your information (credentials) and could use that information for whatever purposes?

When ever I connect to the internet I do so with the idea that security does not exist an I must provide what ever security I can on my own.......chaining proxies.. while time consuming does offer a bit of an edge....but no matter what you do..somewhere along the line you leave "traces".....one suggestion would be to also use something like PROXO or Webwasher chained to "several proxy servers".......but remember...you still have a "starting point" that logs your connection.....
In using a proxy I do so not because of websites....I really do not care what a website logs.....if I did I would not go to that website......
So the question is...what is it you want to do or what is it you want to concel......you can hide lots of information your computer reveals by making changes in the registry....but thats for more experience Users.....not for the in-experienced to mess with the registry.....
If you just want to "hide" a little......then just use PROXO and a proxy server....that suits the average User.........e-mails can be encrypted locally.......all in all....experience plays a large part in what can and can not be done.....sometimes its best to keep it simple.....an just enjoy your time on the internet......because mo matter what..you must connect to a Server.....an that Server keeps logs
Know the websites you visit......an if you have to hide from the website....maybe its time to find a new website to hang at..........I am using a proxy as this moment....not for the website......more because I am simply in the habit of using a proxy.....nothing more complicated than that
