Re: DSL works everywhere but Phone only works at demark

That's exactly the explanation I was looking for, makes complete sense. I will run around with the voltmeter and find the break as soon as the snow stops piling up.

I was procrastinating checking continuity everywhere because I couldn't get my head around a way the DSL could still work.

Thanks,
Alex

DSL is more like RF than POTS and can easily jump a broken wire, albeit losing some signal in the process. Think of that broken wire as a tiny DC blocking capacitor which is passing the AC DSL signal.

I Checked voltage and phone operation in the jack of the demark and both were good but there is no voltage on the lugs where the house line connects (right next to the jack, inside the demark).

I can't understand how a broken connection could stop the voltage but not the DSL. I know DSL doesn't need voltage but it certainly needs continuity. If there's continuity for the DSL how come there is no voltage for the phone? Especially when I know there's voltage at the demark?

Thanks,
Alex
