Tweaking ICS Network

Hi,

Basically i have a ics network. The hosts mtu rwin is configured butt he client im not sure what to set to. Do i set it identical tot he hosts or do i need to do it different since its connects to the host at a fast speed compared to the web?

Are you talking about MTU or RWIN - they are different things completely.

Your MTU should be the same throughout - 1500 is recommended or 1492 if your connection out to the internet is via PPPoE.

Your max RWIN settings don't have to be the same on different devices, but you'll probably find that all the devices on a single network will have similar optimal settings.

You can run a tweak test here at BBR to give your your suggested MTU and RWIN settings. Also, I'd highly recommend ditching ICS and getting an inexpensive router instead.

I have 3 NIC's on 2 ICS machines. 2 NIC's are crossed CAT cable connected. I use RWIN 65535 for these but I rarely run large amounts of data between the 2 machine. One machine is PPPoE connected and that NIC is RWIN and MTU tweaked. All machines use the same 1492 MTU.

ICS works fine as long as you are not pushing the hell out of your CPU.
