I run with a ZyXel x-550 router w/SPI enabled. The two XP machines use XP's firewall. The Ubuntu machine runs w/o a firewall. -- Gadgets |

| reply to kim ActionTec router with ZoneAlarm Free 6.1.744.001. However, ZoneAlarm is only for the outbound traffic - I really hate it when commercial software wants to go out with my stuff and not tell me. I also hate it when it asks me. At the prompt, I usually say "Deny". |

| reply to kim I voted "other" ... Avira's suite (currently using) didn't make the list. It's hard to cover all possible offerings, there are so many available. | reply to kim Just running my WRT54GL with SPI as a firewall, plus NAT.
Haven't had an infection on my machine in years, don't need to run a software firewall, and I stay aware of all the stuff that's on my system so I don't need any extra outbound connection security. |

| reply to Mele20 There are three versions of the nvidia active armor hardware firewall: the plain vanilla version, the ultra, and the SLI version. The latter two versions have their own cpu, the plain vanilla version uses the computer cpu. Only the latter two versions do not work correctly. This is because the checksum function being done by the nvidia cpu doesn't work. So what you need to do is disable the checksum function in the latter two versions.
If you want to discuss this further, start a new thread under something like nvidia firewall. In fact there is a thread on this very topic here somewhere. I contributed to it and found only one person who had it working. He had the plain vanilla version like me, but turning off checksumming in the other two versions SHOULD work.
