New ActionTec Firmware - MI424WR.rmt_4.0.16.1.45.160.rmt

I just noticed on the Verizon Actiontec firmware web site that Actiontec firmware release MI424WR.rmt_4.0.16.1.45.160.rmt was posted.

I do not know what it fixes and have not been able to try it yet.

Could have something to do with MoCA since 612's are in full deployment. Currently technicians have to go in and toggle a setting to enable MoCA on the router.

Just dl'd the new version and I think I'm right about the MoCA settings, at least. There's an autodetect setting for MoCA and by default the privacy settings are enabled.

This resolves an issue where customers who are have been installed with moca can factory reset the router and not have to go into the router to renable moca.

Do the new installs use the actiontech for cable still or is the MOCA now built into the ONT?

they're moca ont's that use coax to the router.

I take it your asking about the MOCA Lan functions, VOD and Guide, they are still controlled by the Router. Thus, a TV only install still needs a router.

I just got FiOS last week. I'm one of the 612 users and the techs had to toggle the MoCA setting.

This is my first time to do an ActionTec upgrade. Currently at 4.0.16.1.45.120. Is the new version stable? I hope it's not like the old Linksys firmware updates - unstable and lots of gloat.

Is the configuration file compatible with the new firmware version, or, do I need to manually note the settings?

Is there a URL for release notes? I'd like to know about new "features".

I've been running the new firmware since last night. The upgrade was simple and all configurations remained intact, but back up the configuration just in case.

I've notice the new cosmetic changes with the Verizon colors and the re-arranging of some menus. I've also noticed it is a lot faster to get through and configure different menu options.

Hope this fixes some of the other known bugs, but I won't know until I test those out.

Doesn't seem to be a major firmware change cause Actiontec's embedded Linux version did not change. But date code is different.

Jungo's (Actiontec firmware supplier) latest openrg release is using Linux kernel 2.6.x

.120 shows:
# cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.4.21openrg-rmk1 #6 Fri Aug 18 16:21:33 PDT 2006

I just used the ActionTec's built-in firmware updater. It's reporting that there are no upgrades available. URL: »upgrade.actiontec.com/MI424WR/MI424WR.rmt The OP lists Verizon as the source for the upgrade, but the router points back to ActionTec. I'm hesitant to do the upgrade now. What to do / what is the "correct" stable version?

so much for the update and new colors, if anyone scoped out Is there a Port open to the world on the actiontec router? as suggested here »www.fiosfaq.com/content.php?contentid=79 you should check your ports again, I know I blocked the port in the old firmware and I just did a port scan right after the firmware update and it's open again..so you might want to have a look here »security.symantec.com/sscv6/defa···enid=sym

What port is it? I just ran that symantec security check and it didn't find any open ports.

4567, question did you update and if so would it be safe to assume you didn't close the port in the old firmware? I'm wondering if it is only affecting routers that had the filter added in the old version as the case with PoloDude and myself so far

Yes i did update and no i didn't in the old firmware. I wonder if it didn't find the port open cause i ran the scan as a power user in xp and not admin.

It’s the router that had the open port. since you didn’t close the port in the old firmware perhaps the new firmware corrects the issue. Perhaps for those who did create the rule (in old firmware) applying the upgrade on top the old firmware with the Advanced filter cause it to reopen? maybe the update don't handle the rule well with the user created filter applied? Just a thought

Using ShieldsUp at grc.com, »www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 Solicited TCP Packets: RECEIVED (FAILED) - Port 4567 is OPEN! It's in the database as "TRAM", with Trojan Sightings: File Nail, FileNail.

Version 4.0.16.1.45.120, no rules modified. This is the "official" version as it is the default update URL in the ActionTec firmware.

»www.fiosfaq.com/content.php?contentid=79 seems to be missing the last picture which says how to configure the filter. What is after "Add"?
