 | BPL is POLLUTION As an amateur operator, I assure you that I am as internet-addicted as the next person. My cable modem went out the other night and I was in a murderous rage. I would support any provider who can provide a technically sound solution to the problems of universal access and broadband competition. However, internet-grade BPL does not actually USE wireless spectrum. It simply makes it so that NOBODY else can, not hams, not the military, not maritime users, not shortwave broadcast, NOBODY. I don't believe we should have to sacrifice some of the most interesting 30Mhz of radio spectrum so that power companies can have an unreliable, slow slice of the internet pie.
Also, if BPL comes to my town, I and anyone else I can talk into it will be buying 1.5KW amplifiers and pointing our beams at the nearest power line, and then running a 24-hour 7-day a week ragchew about how much we hate BPL.
