Grandcentral and Gizmo teaming up.

It looks like Grandcentral and Gizmo are teaming up to provide the long awaited SIP forwarding that was lacking from Grandcentrals feature set. I believe it will begin early next week and I'm really looking forward to it. I will finally get to put both services to good use.

It is my understanding that Gizmo will be listed as one of the forwarding options, and all you need to do is input your Gizmo number and you're good to go.

Awesome. I just hope this forwarding will not introduce too much latencies. I forwarded my GS to Stanaphone and I noticed there is a delay of about 1 sec and this is too much.

This is AWESOME...I travel a lot and now I can get all the calls to my GrandCentral number ringing on my laptop any freaking where and everybody is just calling my normal 202 number in DC! What will be really be cool is if it works with Gizmo on the Nokia N80! Need to check that one out.

I think this is going to work great for my needs. I really like the feature set that Grandcentral provides, and now I can get my calls over VoIP without the need for another DID.

I noticed a week or so ago I was able to click on my 747 gizmo number in the Inbox and GrandCentral would return the call directly to the 747 gizmo number at times. I tried putting my 747 number in as my forwarded number, but it didn't seem to work yet.

That would be great if they add the feature to forward to a SIP URI. Even if it's only for Gizmo numbers, you can always set your Gizmo account to forward to a different SIP URI.

My main complaint for the GrandCentral service is that unanswered calls are billed to the calling party (when it's not a local call for them). Also, it goes to voicemail too quickly.

I'd like to be able to access my address book from voicemail to initiate a call to those numbers in addition to returning calls.

I hope when they come out of beta this is one of the premium options.

Gizmo is now specifically listed as an option along with cell, office and home for forwarding type. It even has the little Gizmo symbol!

Very cool. Very cool indeed. Now they need to work with GTalk and any SIP URI. Then its super cool. But being able to have my laptop ring in the hotel in Tokyo...when people call my DC GrandCentral number? For free? Priceless. Here are some screenshots that are floating around the web.

Just remember the good old "do not disturb" feature. When you are twelve hours ahead of your phone number, you can have some rude awakenings.

Has anybody gotten it to work with an ATA? It will ring for me, but it won't connect. I set it back to forward to my regular incoming phone number.

Mine also rings but does not connect. I have tried a TA and an IP phone with no success.

I set my gizmo softphone to auto answer and I get the calls. Grand Central won't cut through unless you press 1 so the auto answer doesn't affect it.

I didn't get a chance to play with it yesterday, but last I checked I could still not receive calls. The phone rings, but when I answer, it goes to a fast busy after a couple seconds of silence.

Exactly the same deal here... I'm using a Sipura 841 sip phone and it works great with Gizmo, VBuzzer, FWD and others I've played with but GrandCentral only rings my Sipura, and continues ringing (calling myself from a Vonage line) even when I pick up the sip phone... Looks like they're still working on it...

Anyone actually get a connect from GrandCentral to Gizmo?

I just tried again, and I still can't get GrandCentral to forward to my Gizmo account. It will ring, but no connection. I'm using G711u. Perhaps they only want to support the Gizmo software client, which generally uses ilbc.

I just successfully received a call through Gizmo account. I am using G711 on asterisk.

I tried again, but its still not working. One time I actually got the "press 1 to connect the call" announcement when I answered the phone, but then it went to a busy signal. When I tried to test again, I didn't even get the announcement.

That's often indicative of a codec mismatch. If you were going into an Asterisk/FreePBX box you could probably see what the problem is by turning on SIP debug and looking at the Asterisk log file for the time the call arrived. There may be some other issue, but I'd definitely consider the possibility of a codec mismatch.

I enabled all available codecs on my Grandstream and now calls come through fine. I'm not sure which codec is the right one, but it's working
