[AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

Just recently, The screen on my cable box said "Erase" and then it rebooted itself. I have went through the diagnostics screen to see if there was new firmware, and sure enough there was, It says something about VOD information. Also, the fonts in the guide has changed somewhat, and the TV rating was added to the channel banner. I think we are finally going to be getting OnDemand in AZ!

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

Way to go! now... I'm still waiting for US to get ondemand here on the gulfcoast..

Keep an eye on channel 1 since that's where it will probably be also, if there doing what Adelphia did, you will see a bunch of settings on the "guide" when ondemand comes on I'm guessing that's what those "test channels" are that are still there now were having digital simulcast. The VP of marketing on one of their shows "Cox Connexions" said second quarter. (the audio on that show was very distorted, BTW - it was on this morning)

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

You just have to press the right key combinations:

On a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 (and other Explorer Models, both DVR and non-DVR): Hold the select button on the front of the unit itself, when the Mail light comes on, press info. To exit out, press Exit on your remote control. Use page up and down buttons on your remote to scroll through the screens.

On a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000, Press and hold the "target" button until the mail light comes on, then press the diamond. TO exit out, press the exit button on your remote. Use page up and down buttons on your remote to scroll through screens.

Hope this helps,
-Joshua

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

All the upgrade is for is a few new tweaks and daylight Savings Time is 3 weeks earlier this year.....

A new version of software is needed because of the Time Change.....

The VOD info was always there, you just never noticed yet.....

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

No update here. Does the VOD thing say a bunch of FFs and 0000 and a big fat "UNAVAILABLE"?

I never had the VOD Information before. And I doubt its for the daylight savings change, as we live in Arizona, we don't even have daylight savings.

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

Who knows. Cox is losing pay per screw channels from InDemand. Hopefully soon we will all have ondemand. (it's going to be a huge cash cow for cox especially when they charge $13 for howard tv and anime and WWF 24/7)

We had about 60 PPV channels, then went to 12 now only 4 and 3 adult channels.

I noticed the sound got lower after the update. I checked it and it was still set on 'narrow'.

Ive noticed today that my SA8300 HD now can fast forward and rewind at 4x (4 arrows instead of 3), I now have an option for play from beginning as well as skip to end, ANNNNDDD the box no longer kicks me out when im watching a program thats recording and the program ends.

Good job cox but I still think your Customer service sucks these days.

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

That's old firmware. We had that for a year. I wish they had title search, though.

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

I think the next firmware upgrade will be from the current crappy software to the new "not so crappy" TV Guide software.

Lord knows when that will happen.

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

Rob the Firmware and the guide software(Iguide) are not the same. Besides Motorola areas will see it first.

Go figure.

I'm guessing by late 2007 we will all have it.

That's interesting; even the older Motos had title search, and the current one I have now does.

Hopefully the OD content will be better. Tulsa just got it and I've been playing around a little with it. Haven't bought any of the content yet, just messing around in what is called 'Freezone'. So far it's ok, but the menu mechanism is clumsy at best.

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

Just received an update here and noticed that. TV ratings are now on it.

They did the DVR first, HD now don't know when the standard boxes will be updated.

Still no OD yet

Channel 1 popped up saying "FREE HBO weekend"

When OD becomes available, will the box reboot again or will it just say channel 1 "ondemand"

Watch cox when they have free previews. they like to leave the channel on after its over then they charge you without authorization.

I hope not. I usually keep a close eye on my bill. That's illegal, too

Doesn't mean they won't do it. they did that to me on a free showtime weekend

Re: [AZ] New Cable Box firmware?

That was probably due to a billing mistake. I've had so called "sportz" pay per screws left on after the free prevue, nothing was on my bill.
