Minor point of order -- 56k was not 56k up.. it was 28k up and 50k down on a good day!
Thats not because they didnt want it to be 56k up, it was because of technical limits.
On the other hand, the telcos who drove ADSL standards think in terms similar to all media companies: we broadcast OUR stuff to YOU and YOU pay for it. Maybe so.. but isnt it ironic that the two most compelling reasons (so far) to get broadband to the home, Napster and multiplayer games, prefer equal bandwidth in both directions?
