The FAQs and threads mention "profiles". I have no idea what they are and what impact they have the services TS offer. Could this topic be addressed in a FAQ? (I'm currently w/ Rogers and thinking of switching.)

Hi Cordalok,

This thread (»TekSavvy FAQ »DSL: What are the various profiles available?) basically just shows the various options for speeds...

Generically bell gives us two different profiles to charge against... 256K service and 5Meg service, to which we pay the templated rates. What this means is regardless if we can only get a 1Meg speed we still land up having to pay the 5Meg rate to which in turn the end customer would also pay the 5Meg rates. We normally try our best to give as accurate a ballpark as possible to the individuals so as to not cause any harm in perception but it's difficult as we can only guess until which point the customer is finally on our system and being billed. From there we can tweak things but that's about it.

Feel free to PM me your phone number and complete address and I'll return a ballpark idea of possible speed.

Regards,

Rocky

re: DSL Service: How long to install? (#14730)

how about adding: DSL Service: Switching from another ISP to TekSavvy - what information is needed from old ISP?

Can this process be clarified - and any info required from old ISP needed to expedite the process specified? Its a bit more complex than just waiting 5 biz days isn't it?

Thanks

[or is this covered elsewhere and I missed it?]

Hey dav_ID,

It's actually pretty simple when switching from DSL to DSL.

If from Bell Sympatico:
- Cancel from Bell and get a cancellation number (make sure to give yourself at least 7 business days before cancelling as it takes 5 business days to activate on our side).
- Provide cancellation number in your order with us and make the activation date the same date as the bell cancellation date. To do otherwise might cause problems with Bell as Sympatico has the root account to the routers and they may disconnect you if your are connected elsewhere ahead of the Bell disconnect date.

If from third party ISP:
- Cancel from the ISP and give yourself at least 7 business days out as it takes 5 business days to transfer to us.
- In this case you can have your activation date overlap, so get our date to happen as soon as possible so that if there are problems that they can be resolved before the other ISP's disconnect date.

Note: In either of these two case, once you receive your login you can just switch it and start using your network ahead of time... Allowing you to pre-configure all of your settings before the physical transfer.

If from Cable (or anything else):
- Pretty simple... order whenever, just make sure the two services overlap so that you can switch with as little interruption as possible.

Rocky,
I had a quick look at the FAQ's and didn't see the "What's the difference between unlimited and premium?". The question seems to pop up every other week, at least.

Maybe you can add an FAQ about payment? Like which payment options you support and that kind of thing. I personally don't use online banking or prepaid, so what other option do I have. Since you have to pay in advance. And if I want to confirm payment every month, do I have to call in, that kind of thing. Because I'm still unsure on how you pay for this, seems kind of different from Bell or Rogers.

Oh, and if you decide to pay by cheque, by 'quarterly', does it mean you pay the next 3 months in advance? And since the first month of service has to be paid, does that mean I pay for 4 months with my first cheque?

Good idea... I'll see if I can't add this to the to-do list.

If you pay by cheque, yes, it would be quarterly but your first quarter would only be that, the quarter... you'd just pay the three months.

This is a bit off topic perhaps as it concerns the WEBSITE more than the FAQ. But since the subject of payment methods came up I thought I'd mention I'm unable to find an option for "online banking" payment method on the website when looking at the signup process. Or did I just miss something here?

Also want to ask: is there an option to get invoices/statements in paper form? Just kind of want it as a record keeping thing.

You can but there is a charge for it.... Feel free to call in to accounting and discuss options.

But there is no cost if the monthly statements were to be emailed?

That's correct.

Between paper/print/mailing/stamping costs, and the time to change gears to do this... There's a definite cost to it.

...plus the tracking is very poor of what has been sent, so we then have to spend time on verifying and logging/tracking things so that the paper version is noted to have been sent in case of disputes, etc... It's a pain.

Do I have to go request this option or is the email sent by default?

Request an email invoice and they'll add it, but otherwise nothing will be sent.
