Email regarding overuse of service.

IM not here to complain about what you'd expect.

I received a letter from Cox stating I have been using too much BAndwidth, ok fine, They're probably right. The letter doesn't give me any details aside from the faq about it. It doesn't tell me how much im using, or how I can track it. It does however direct me to cox business services.

SO two days ago when I get this letter I thought about it a bit and sent a reply to Abuse AND to cox business services. On the abuse end I simply asked them how I can keep track of how much BAndwidth im using, and also if I could simply purchase a second account as an alternative to trying to meet the caps. At the same time I inquired on how it is gauged and whether if I made a effort to decrease my bw usage significantly that would be taken into consideration before suspending me.

Its been two days now and no response from them.

I also sent off a letter to business services to inquire about the cost of a business line (Im not completely unreasonable, and I figure I should explore every option. I don't mind paying my fair share if it's reasonable)

Two days later no reply.

Its very difficult to take this seriously when cox is so lax about responding to their customers. They have sent me a somewhat threatening letter form a department called Abuse but fail to reply in a timely manner. With all of the issues I have had with cox (some of you will remember my two month long ordeal over packet loss) and the fact that I RARELY get even close to the speeds im paying for. I'm definitely becoming the type of customer who can't wait for some competition. I have very little Loyalty left to cox, and all in all feel pretty bad about the customer service oriented side of their business. All in all I have been impressed with many of the aspects of the actual service, but I look forward to the chance to stick it to them in the customer service side of things through forums such as these and other outlets such as surveys and word of mouth.

One year ago I was a DEDICATED happy cox customer.

I too am wondering about their business offerings. Im interested in the 10mbps/2mbps package. If the restrictions on bandwidth usage are better, I would gladly like to have the extra upload bandwidth. I've not been getting my 12mbps down anyways.

As far as i'm concerned, until they have tools that help you monitor your bandwidth, you shouldn't be responsible for going over their "caps". Also, you should talk to the abuse department on here.

As far as their business offerings, you will have to contact the local business office and find out what's going on with their offerings.

Also, can you switch to DSL in your area? Most DSL companies don't have "caps" unlike their cable competitors but read the EULA to be sure.

Here, it's sprint/embarq and there horrible. Their prices are more reasonable then Cox's however, I'm too far from the remote node to get their 5.0 plan.

Unfortunately where Im currently living I am unable to get DSL, or I would even look into going dual WAN. I contacted the business side through email, still no reply, no reply from abuse either. I'm fed up with Cox I can't wait for some competition.

You could always get DU Meter or some other app to monitor the amount of data you transfer.

Well unless you get put on a different node your issues wont be going away anytime soon.

I could make this -very- long winded but I won't. Can't say I have very many good things to say lately about Cox. I have separate premier residential 12/1 as well as a 10/2 business account. The business account was doing what it was supposed to for the first 3 months. Then, node split, downloads are ok, BUT, uploads now only go 1.5-1.8. NOT ANY HIGHER THAN 1.8. Been fighting with CBS now since SEPTEMBER over this issue. Do you think I've gotten anywhere with the issue? Course not. I guess to Cox, it's ok if we cheat you/short change you a little. So, should I only pay "up to" 80% of my bill also??? For a 2 megabit u/l, they say 1.6 (80%) is acceptable. Hogwash! They give you same ol same ol "up to" excuses.

I don't think the Phoenix area can support 2 megabit u/l. I also provide IT services for several Cox customers. Just installed a new connect in Phoenix yesterday for the 10/2. Yah it goes 10 down but DOESN'T go 2 up. More like 1.5/1.6 over there. I expect more run around about that issue.

As of last Wednesday, I think they axed the 2 megabit u/l tier and replaced it with 12/1.5 at the same price as the 10/2. The website is not reflecting it yet I don't think. More BS with those tier change decisions.

I just got these prices for Phoenix area business accounts last Wednesday. I'm considering, after 6+ years as a business customer, of doing something else. I'm REALLY TIRED of the BS Cox gives and abuses it's customers as I have.

2/384 $59
4/512 $79
7/768 $99
10/1 $139
12/1.5 $179

Note: The 10/2 account is/was $179 as well

Something strange though, in Central Florida, you can get 15/2.5 hmmmmmmm

Hope this helps...

Been thinking about calling qwest to see how much a 10mbps/10mbps connection would cost me. Im a small business owner and I use tons of bandwidth and I mainly work from home. Something I'll have to think about.

I think you're confusing Cox with one of those "other" companies that has outsourced their tech support. AFAIK all the Cox call centers are in North America.

You are correct, although I believe some are in Canada, which technically is still part of NA.

Cox management is not at home

We've known this for several years.

Here's another of my own rants about the broken windows on Cox edifice.

I finally heard from Cox Abuse today and while I was typing up my reply I guess it hadn't sunk in because in my reply I was extremely polite.

Here is what they sent me:
Tier Used Allowed Of Cap Used Allowed Of Cap Date Node
Premier | 16098 MB | 15360 MB | 104% | 24108 MB | 61440 MB | 39% | 2007-02-20 | 5009A | upstream

So according to this, on the 20th of this month I was 4% over my upload cap. And I had used 39% of my download.

I was about to sign up for a 100 dollar a month business account because of this letter, but quite frankly I think this is pretty crappy.

I find it more than a little ironic that they complain about my FOUR PERCENT over on upload, and yet my download speed is about 9Mb out of the twelve im paying for thats CONSISTENTLY 25% less than the advertised speed. I have NEVER called them to bother them about this.

I Cannot wait for competition cox. Tomorrow when I go to work at my tech support job, This is what I'll be telling my coworkers about. The day Verizon buys qwest will be a bad day for Cox I think.

Its no surprise that cox didn't rate highly in the top ISP polls this year.
