Re: Email regarding overuse of service.

I was one of the Fist in VABch, lol, Jumped on as Soon as they launched @Home, which their software was a PAIN, and I ended up removing it and setting up my windows Network TCP/IP settings myself.. lol.. Member that @Home Program that ran the diagnostic thru the DHCP and stuff.. lol.. I HATED it.

I use about that much perhaps a bit more with my Giganews account. I found the Cox news servers less than ideal. All those upload stats seem to be the problem. Suppose a business account will be my move should the downloads/uploads become letter worthy. Probably what Cox would like also.

generally Business customers Don't have Caps......

But there is language stating that hey are using a shared connection and if their usage severely affects others they can be terminated....

I am curious is the upload excess triggered the letter,as I know I go way way over the download cap. Could it make a difference if an apartment dweller affects the node? I live in a single residence have monitored my usual download as far in excess of 40G a month. Does anyone have hard numbers on bandwith allocations for business accounts? I scoured the web site to no avail so far.

That's interesting to consider. I've never lost my original service contract with Cox since before it was even Cox.

I was a TCI customer with @Home internet service, then AT&T bought TCI and I had AT&T@Home, then Cox bought it all out in this area.

I'm sure they have much bigger abusers to go after than 4% (Potentially ~46% at end-of-month, if averaged). This is basically abuse by the abuse department.

I finally heard from Cox Abuse today and while I was typing up my reply I guess it hadn't sunk in because in my reply I was extremely polite.

Here is what they sent me:
Tier Used Allowed Of Cap Used Allowed Of Cap Date Node
Premier | 16098 MB | 15360 MB | 104% | 24108 MB | 61440 MB | 39% | 2007-02-20 | 5009A | upstream

So according to this, on the 20th of this month I was 4% over my upload cap. And I had used 39% of my download.

I was about to sign up for a 100 dollar a month business account because of this letter, but quite frankly I think this is pretty crappy.

I find it more than a little ironic that they complain about my FOUR PERCENT over on upload, and yet my download speed is about 9Mb out of the twelve im paying for thats CONSISTENTLY 25% less than the advertised speed. I have NEVER called them to bother them about this.

I Cannot wait for competition cox. Tomorrow when I go to work at my tech support job, This is what I'll be telling my coworkers about. The day Verizon buys qwest will be a bad day for Cox I think.

Its no surprise that cox didn't rate highly in the top ISP polls this year.

Cox management is not at home

We've known this for several years.

Here's another of my own rants about the broken windows on Cox edifice.

I've never gotten any of these AFAIK, and I Run a Xbox360 Dedicated Server 24/7 as well as using it for net browsing downloading and uploading of Large WMV Files, and my brother plays FFXI too..

You are correct, although I believe some are in Canada, which technically is still part of NA.

I have very little Loyalty left to cox, and all in all feel pretty bad about the customer service oriented side of their business. All in all I have been impressed with many of the aspects of the actual service.

I feel the same way, And I didn't know COX had a customer service !!!!!
Sure they do. how well do you understand indian accents?

Been thinking about calling qwest to see how much a 10mbps/10mbps connection would cost me. Im a small business owner and I use tons of bandwidth and I mainly work from home. Something I'll have to think about.
