Or it could be a single vengeful AT&T tech.
Or it could just be a random outage.
If the city doesn't have evidence that AT&T deliberately took down their service, they'll be lucky if they don't get sued for slander. |

As years go buy, I believe less and less in coincidences, though.
Maybe because I've heard the line "I didn't do it" and my personal favorite "NOT MY KID!!!!" when I sat there and saw it happen.
Yes lady, YOUR KID.
Deal with it.

Uh, yeah. Good luck with that. Slander/libel isn't something worth pursuing for dumbass incidents like this one. There has to be some kind of tangible injury. What's the injury here? A buncha dumbasses talking shit. -- The Toll

 | The other issue is that it requires making KNOWINGLY false accusations. Claiming AT&T might be responsible isn't enough, unless the city knew they weren't and said they were. And even then, AT&T would have to prove the city knew it wasn't them. -- AMD X2 4800+ @2700Mhz/ MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI/ 4x 1024Mb Corsair XMS PC4000/ WD 74Gb Raptor/ PNY 7800GTs SLI/ Antec 550 True Control/Custom water cooler |

dynodbPremium,VIP join:2004-04-21 Minneapolis, MN | Thing is, they didn't suggest it might be them, they stated it was them as if it were a point of fact. Had they simply expressed an opinion, different story altogether.
I doubt AT&T would sue over something like that, but I suspect they'd have a case if they did- it typically doesn't take long for a telco to identify a cable cut being the cause of an outage. Sounds like they went to the press with unfounded accusations almost immediately. |

Again though, to have a case they'd have to prove the city knew it was not AT&T behind it, not just that they made an unsubstantiated accusation. -- AMD X2 4800+ @2700Mhz/ MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI/ 4x 1024Mb Corsair XMS PC4000/ WD 74Gb Raptor/ PNY 7800GTs SLI/ Antec 550 True Control/Custom water cooler |

| reply to dynodb Sued for slander?
I'm sorry, but the town can get in line - me first!
I've been smearing 'em (PacHell/SBC/ATT) in my sig for years.
Of course if they tried to sue me they'd get their heads handed to 'em, as I have the evidence showing the statements therein to be true.
I think it's harder to say truthful good things about the 'new' (should we call it the undead?) AT&T than it is to say truthful bad things. -- SBC is the world's second-largest SpamHaus and leads an Organized Crime Syndicate. Also see TURN.org or UCAN. |
