I'm siding with the locals on this. I wouldn't buy a home for sale with one of those in front of it. They draw way too much attention to them.
I have to agree. These aren't small boxes like you'd see for some cable installs. And they aren't tucked away next to the house or behind bushes. This is a huge white cabinet in your front yard.

Hell if they gave me a 50 dollar discount a month I would have 2 of them in my yard.

Look at the pictures, there is no way to plant bushes around them. They are planting them in the section between the sidewalk and the street.

I concur. And look how close they are to the sidewalk.

You just CAN'T avoid it.. it almost looks like someone left a dryer outside for the trash guys to pick up, now who really would want that PERMANENTLY in their yard??

You know that's a crossbox, right? It has nothing to do with lightspeed and they've been plunking those down in those spots since before you were born.

I'd guess the latter. Can't think of too many homeowners that are going to want that kind of monstrosity in their front yard.

Can't. They have to be accessible in case they need to do service.

And I betting those boxes being displayed have been there a while.

No it's not. They're on the public right of way; that's not your property.

Talk about anal retentive suburban twits. 'reminds me of the suburban types that move out here to the country for all the beautiful scenary: and then get completely outraged when the neighboring landowner harvests his timber.

Note to suburban types: This ain't a socialist country; if you don't own the property, you don't get to say what gets done with it. You want more control of the view further from your house, buy a bigger chunk of land.

Ok, "Mr. Pedantic," it may not technically on the homeowner's property, however it is in front of the homeowner's house. And, in most of these areas, whether the homeowner owns that strip of land or not, the homeowner is legally responsible for maintaining it (see what happens if you don't keep the grass, etc., cut back on that strip). So, it's not exactly a cut-and-dry demarcation.

Ok, Grandpa Crankenstein, I really don't see the relevancy. However, if one does move to a certain area, in part because they were sold on that scenery (if you're going to be pedantic, use a freaking spell checker), it's reasonable to expect that they are going to get a little upset if something upsets their expectations.

Really? You sure about that? There's an awful lot of laws and programs in place that look kind of socialist. Then again, socialism is about economics, not whether you're allowed to do certain things on your property or not and not about whether the government can dictate land-use policy. Simple fact is, government dictates land-use policy all the time (think zoning and other laws). But, at least you didn't use the word "communist."

Or, work with your local governing body to establish land-use controls.

Well, I agree about 'suburban twits'. I am tired of hearing people cry about something the company has the right of way to do. But I also agree that AT&T are idiots too, installing VDSL, when Fiber should be what they waste money on.

I'm in Jacksonville, FL, this week on buisness. I've noticed locations that have boxes of similar size. The difference between them and the AT&T ones is that these have all been painted a dull, matte green. They tend to be much less obtrusive than had they been painted white. Dunno why AT&T doesn't just do everyone a favor and paint the things to blend in a bit more.

I would swap the boxes for the one's they have installed here. The box location is on three sides in HUGE orange and black stick on letters.
