| reply to The Flash hmm this is weird timing, my st home finally kicked the bucket last night and I was looking at the 2 wire. To anyone who got one: What firmware came installed? Does it have access to the 'Management console' (still web based)?
I don't think I've ever bought anything refurb from CC, anyone happen to catch the return policy on it? |

I figure even if it sucks as a modem, you can always use it as a wireless access point and a switch. -- GO LEAFS GO! |

| reply to The Flash well I'm either going to jtag or build a serial inverter for my ST home I'm pretty sure I can restore it but I don't really have the time to build right now. I haven't quite decided if I'm going to buy one yet or use my ss5360 until I fix the st home.
But here's some info I gathered about the 2wire: This could be incorrect but hey...
Apparently firmware v4 and above is adsl2+ compatible. If the firmware is lower then 3.7.3 then you need to use a conversion firmware (from shasta to bsd) before flashing to v4+.
I've found all of these and a version 5.something with some google searching so they are out there if anyone wants to tinker.
The activation keys including one marked manual configuration are available on 2wire's website.
From what I've read this is a decent modem. I don't know how it compares to others. Maybe someday HiVolt you could do a head-to-head-to-head-to-etc... comparison with the modems in your collection that let you pull line stats; I know I'd be interested in reading that.
The management console section if its unlocked on the web interface provides full stats (like speed touch home style.) |

| I've poked around on the 2wire site and it seems some terminology used in this router are similar to my old Netopia... ie Pinholes = Port Forwarding, and the use of activation codes to enable features... Im wondering if its at all based on a netopia design? -- GO LEAFS GO! |

| said by rex0 :Wow that's a beast it looks a lot more streamlined in the pictures on 2wire.com Yeah its huge. They are pictured with a vertical stand on the 2wire site. You don't get the vertical stand with these refurbs. In fact nothing in the box but the modem itself and the power supply. Its not even wrapped in a bag just tossed in. But for $25 what do ya expect for a 4-in-1 device? -- GO LEAFS GO! |
