what´s the address 255.255.255.255 for?

Hello everyone,

I have a strange connection in the right moment I connect to internet, from the remote address 255.255.255.255 and port bootps (67) trying to reach the port 68, (bootpc)with the udp protocol, and connecting to the application: generic host process for win32 services

I have a rule denying remote connections for this address 255.255.255.255, and sometimes doesn´t connect, and appears although I am not connecting to any program, just to internet,
what is this address and why is it trying to connect to my computer?

Thank you and regards

Ever hear of DHCP also known as "Get Network Settings Automatically"? Well you described it perfectly.

255.255.255.255 is the broadcast address bootps(erver) is trying to reach bootpc(lient). Tiny/Kerio 2.x defaults to always allowing this with rule "DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol)", UDP Remote-67 to Local-68 to any application, both directions.

I'm surprised you're getting an internet connection but you may be seeing another device being accessed - broadcast is seen by all.

Thank you , then I have to allow this connection, I´m using a modem adsl usb, maybe that´s the reason I can connect denying this address?

good, then I´m going to make a rule for allowing it right now

greetins
