Hong Kong Visa

I am wanting to go to Hong Kong. I do not just want to stay for a week or a few months (I already know about the VISA free period). I want to be able to stay for a year or two. I want to learn the language, culture and history of HK. I receive income from social security and can still receive this in HK (I have checked). I know someone there that will let me move in to an apartment rent free. The problem is VISA. Is there some insider secret that will let me get the appropriate VISA? A visa that will let me stay with an ongoing "resident" or "semi-resident" status. I would like to take some classes at HK's various Universities. But there is no way (other than winning big in the lottery) that I can afford to apply as a full time student.I have applied, and keep getting the run around. The latest hangup is the fact that the person letting me have an apartment does not herself have "sufficient income" to support me. I have explained in numerous phone calls, emails and HK Immigration forms, that She will not be supporting me. But still the snag exists.

I would greatly appreciate any help, advice, tricks, secrets, words of wisdom, magic potions ( ) that will let me get the VISA I need.
