 [CT] Modem Concerns

Dear PapaSmurf,

Truly, what cable modem would you recommend for the (Manchester) Connecticut system? Also, what model is currently supplied by the Manchester, CT office?

Much Obliged!

My current modem is a Toshiba PCX1100U, which seemed to be just fine until the last few months when things started slowing down. Could this problem be associated with a change made by COX, such as a DOCSIS update, etc?

That modem is not on the supported modems list

I'd recommend a Motorola SB5120 (Or SB5101 if not available) for virtually ANY DOCSIS 1.x/2.x cable provider.

Splendid! It certainly was on the supported modems list when I installed it.

It sure would be nice if we as customers were advised of changes that would affect certain modems that are no longer considered to be supported!

I need a recommended modem that COX will not consider to be legacy in a short while.

I'm not an official Cox rep like Papa Smurf, but I have had very good luck with my Motorola SB5120 here in the north central CT area. In fact, since I installed it last June, I have had no issues at all with my 5/2 service. I get the full 5 down and about 1.8 up regularly. My previous modem was also a Motorola and it ran perfectly 24/7 for six years before it finally began to die.

Thanks for your replies, Gamer and Ender3rd - I was leaning that way with some research I've done but it appears to be consistent with your combined experience.
