 | I am torn on this one I hated the Bill that installed anti-muni, but it did help our community get Verizon DSL with the BFRR (Bona fide retail request) part of it. Too bad we had to do all the work and give free advertising to get the 50 people to sign up in each of the 3 areas in my community to do it. No one was going to ever put up a Muni in southern Schuylkill county for us, I would be the only one who would even have close to the know how to do it here but wasn't going to take the risk. I don't see the bill dying any time soon with the support it received from the Governor.
Oh well, I have my DSL and hopefully Comcast will buy out our crappy mom and pop cable company so that we have somewhat of a competition here soon. Verizon has been forced to deploy DSL in many communities now across the state where they never intended on deploying before the Legislation. |

 | McAlevy's Fort due to be deployed this year
Lake Wynonah CSA (customer service area) 3101 already deployed last year
Lake Wynonah CSAs 3102, 3103 scheduled for deployment by June 2007.
Other than that I know there are others but Verizon is pretty tight lipped about any area they are forced into deploying but there have been successes.
This is the link to the program from the PA DCED (Department of Community and Economic Development)

Here is a link to Verizon PA, there used to be a link for the ACT 183 legislation but it is now gone. The broadband map has been updated, nearly all of Schuylkill county now has DSL where 1 year ago we had next to nothing.

Anyone interested in using the legislation should contact the PA DCED to obtain more information. |
