@comcast.net

Until someone comes up with a better solution, you will...

...have DRM.

Every effort possible to deter Piracy should be implemented and Pirates should be severely punished for their crimes. That is the only way DRM will ever disappear.

Meh... I don't even want to score this one. This is actually some reasoning behind the comment... albeit a bit slanted reasoning.

DRM does NOTHING to deter piracy. You're too
drowning in the MAFIAA koolaid to realize this, as
is every Organized Music/Hollywood CEO who thinks DRM
is a viable business model.

It may even encourage or cause "piracy". And it is
pure snakeoil as well - if it can be heard or seen,
it can be copied.

For those of you who persist in thinking that DRM somehow
curbs piracy, read the following commentary from Jim Baen's
Universe posted to p2pnet.net: »p2pnet.net/story/11440

Nothing could be further from the truth. Jim is arguing
that DRM creates a black market and high demand for non
DRM encumbered (read: pirated) electronic media. It is
the very same principle behind smuggling.

DRM Isn't about piracy. It's about control and a way of preventing consumers from paying a fair amount for content. It's designed to protect profits and monopolistic distribution systems.
