Because of this jump I called OOL. They made me run a FTP test where I was seeing 1 Mb/s DL through my router and 2 Mb/s directly from my cable modem. They said to not even bother with the Speakeasy and OOL test.
The tech said I should be seeing 20-22 Mb/s on that FTP download and I am seeing 2 Mb/s. Nothing more we could do on the phone so they are sending a tech out tomorrow. Are you sure it was 2 megabits and not 2 megaBYTES. FTP is normally reported in Bytes. 2 MBytes = 16.3 megabits/sec -- Warning, If you post nonsense and use misinformation and are here to argue based on those methods, you will be put on ignore. |

| You know what, I am not sure. I took the technicians word on what he was looking at. I just did it again through my router and it came up as 1.2 MB/s. Both capital letters. Is there a surefire way for me to test this out?
Thanks for the reply and help. |

| A capital B stands for Bytes. If you are using IE or Mozilla, they definitely reports in Bytes.
You can use the FTP program in the link below (it is in FTPOOL.ZIP)

1 edit | So with the router you are around 10mbps, without around 16+mbps

I have a Netgear WPNT834. I actually used that list before I switched to OOL Boost and bought this new router. Needless to say I am disappointed that I am not seeing the proper DL speed.
I even turned off SPI and that made no difference at all either. |

18 MB? That's not even that good without the router. |

OOL sent out a rep. We made a direct line from the first splitter to my cable modem. My laptop now gets 26/4.5 consistently when connected directly to router. GOOD.
Now, reconnect Netgeat WPNT834 router.
My main P4 computer gets 10/4.5. JUNK. I then took my laptop and connected it to the router, 26/4.5.
What gives? My main pPC is a P4, my laptop is really a piece of junk. I did tweak test on my main PC. Also, I tested it on various other machines and got near 10/4.5.
Notes and recommendations: We have no recommendations for 64k lines Looking good
Observations: Good data stream (no/few rexmits)
Observations: Looking good |

| Ok, sometimes its the simplest things. My laptop was tweaked properly, a 65535 rwin setting. All my other PCs, 17000 and change. When I was doing the tweak and it asked for kb/s, I put in too low a number. My calculations were obviously off. Thanks for everyones help here. ISSUE RESOLVED!! IZ am getting 25/4.5 on all machines now.
The Netgear WPNT834 had nothing to do with it. |

| That's good that you got it fixed. I am surprised that nobody picked up on the ....
"We have no recommendations for 64k lines"
That would clue me to ask for a URL for the Tweak Test and the low RWIN would be obvious. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

The Netgear WPNT834 had nothing to do with it. And another one that turned out to NOT be the router!

| Whats amazing is that OOL has no clue about the rwin settings. The onsite technician that showed up thought since I was splitting my cable line to my slingbox that was the issue, although I assured him the modem was in the -10 to +10 range so I should be fine.
The people on the phone were the ones telling me to do the FTP test and that the 2 MB/s speed should be 20+ MB/s. An earlier post made me realize that 2 MB/s is about 16 Mb/s. This was after I told the tech I was getting about 16 Mb/s on the OOL online test. He said those results are not as good as the FTP test.
Why does OOL support now know this stuff??
Anyway, like I said, all is resolved now. |
