Re: [CT] Question re: Cox traditional phone service said by Fubar:cox doesn't provide service over SNET/SBC/ATT's lines... they use the Coax line feeding the house, Put up a NIU that converts the cable signal to traditional twisted pair.... That is how telephone is supplied over the existing home wiring and jacks.... Ok. That makes more sense to me then as to how they're supplying their phone service in this manner.
Your phone cord suggestion was tried with no better results. And, i'm sure the connection is there because plugging a regular phone into the back of the pc in addition to having the regular line from the pc's modem to the wall establishes a good phone connection.
As far as the drivers, I can look into that. It's an old pc though. Strange this was just working though on the at&t line but not with this one.
There just must be something different there with their setup preventing this.
It act likes it hears the dialtone because when the line is unplugged..the computer says there is no dialtone.. but connecting it goes no further than it dialing in and then just sitting there unanswered.
This was also tried using different access numbers in different cities even (netzero)..with the same results.
Anyways..any further comments from anyone or ideas is appreciated.
Honestly, I think it's people like this that will keep the dialup business going for a long time to come.
What the attraction is here for her is just a real mystery, especially seeing that 15Mb cable hsi is right there already in the house..and would let her even save on this bill, as small as it is. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |
