Re: Gives False Hope of a Faster Connection It's a marketing gimmick. Those 90% that aren't "power users" don't even know what it is or what it does. Most don't even know what speed they're getting. Comcast could slow them to a relative trickle and they would not care. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT 1 edit | It appears that my Comcast connection is trickling along at about 20,400/738k this evening.
All I can say is God help the phone company.
Your assertion that this is simply a "marketing gimmic" couldn't be further off the mark.
Many files that we all download on a regular basis fall within the limits that powerboost allows to see these kinds of speeds. Comcast was ingenious in devising this type of network which allows the majority of users to get on and off the network quickly when downloading files which fall within these limits. And, even for files which exceed that, it certainly gives users a very fast start.
And so, what happens after the 20,000k speeds disappear for me? I fall back to a "measly" 8000k instead.
Comcast is kicking A$$ and taking names..and it won't be long until they completely dominate the high speed world and DSL is just a distant memory.
Unfortunately, AT&T's only answer to date is their 7000 customer strong uverse service. Which doesn't even deliver on 1/3rd these speeds.
What an absolute disaster in the making that is. |

The ones that don't like it are either • Users that believe they are entitled to unlimited bandwidth for free 7x24 • SBC, Verizon and other telco employees who compete against it |

Ask yourself: What percentage of marketing is some form of contrivance that benefits (mostly) the marketer? I've never in my life seen such naivety. We're winning the war on terrorism, too, by the way, and NO is turning the corner on reconstruction. Of course you see a benefit, but nothing close to the benefit that Comcast receives for bragging rights on speed tests and also having their name listed on speed test sites at the top of the results listing.
If anyone on this forum actually believes that Comcast, or the vast majority of corporations, is giving you something above and beyond what you're already paying for because they simply value you sooo much, then there's a hard landing in your future.

| reply to devnuller You forgot people who were brought up with a 'buyer beware' mindset. So many people today become brainwashed handpuppets of advertising far too easily, and actually believe the crap marketers pass off without question. The pharmaceutical industry is probably the worst of the bunch.
FWIW: I also distrust communications companies with a passion. If it passes ANY type of data it probably doesn't pass the smell test.

That was a stretch, for sure I was pointing out how marketing perception is used by every enterprise, even our government. And if your government is spreading it thick with rosy slogans and dubious claims (and they work for corporations), what do you think corporate marketing is all about? -- that was my point, leap that it was ... |

The marketing folks have certainly succeeded, without qualification. I never thought I'd see the day when armies of overpaying customers would rush to defend a huge Fortune 500 corporation. What's next, defenders of gas pricing?
