Re: WRTP54G-ER JTAG Unlock using windows To all friends,
Do not spend too much effort to connect the pins 2,4,6,8,10. These pins already connect to the ground of circuit board. You just need to connect pin #12 to any of (2,4,6,8,10) then connect the #20,#24 and the ground of parallel port as the diagram from voiplover.

I think wrt54.exe with the /fc:55 is my last chance I have already a backup created with the use of a "standard" wrt54g.exe

In general I followed voiploverThen reboot the WRTP54G-ER, go into the Administration/Firmware Update/ to update the new firmware. The firmware should already download before you start this unlock process.
ahchu, could you please post your WRT54G.EXE as it appears you have a version that is newer with specific support for a flash chip in the WRTP54G-ER and others.
This could be a great help to correct possible issues others have with the an older version not supporting the flash chip directly.
Thank you. |

ronmark join:2000-12-25 Moreno Valley, CA 2 edits | reply to voiplover Thanks,rec9140. I belatedly realized that the files a few post back are the pieces of the file package in the 1st post. There was a pdf file also included, as well, according to a ref near the front of the thread. I think it may have been the HairyDairyMaid one, so I already had that.
NOW - a big Question. I did the TJAG mod and proceedure yesterday. The process went like the pictures and text in this thread said it should. But the unit seems to remain locked. In fact, more so than the unit was out of the box. Some data:
Still shows 3.1.14 version in the web page. Tabs such as "Voice" are gone.
A log-in page asks for username and password. That's it.
No common combinations work ( admin/admin, etc. ......
S T O P T H E P R E S S E S !! IT'S UNLOCKED.
I just vaguely remembered as I was typing this post that I had changed the low level PW to admin/1234 while trying to do the CYT unlock. (No courteous mention in THAT thread that the CTY method won't work on -Earthworm units.)
Surprising though, all the resets and mods did not make that PW go back to default. Something to know.
Am I pleased? You betcha. Many thanks to all those here and elsewhere who did the real work to make it happen.

Re: WRTP54G-ER JTAG Unlock using windows hi all,
sorry for a noob question. I have followed this thread (and others) quite closely. I have recently bought a WRTP54G-er for US$30 and I would like to unlock it. It came with firmware 3.14 so I assume the software-only method will not work.
I'm new to hardware/soldering but I'm quite fluent in software/linux. I would like to build my own JTAG cable. However, after reading all the posts in this thread it seems to me that soldering TO THE ROUTER is necessary.
Will a JTAG cable with 14-pin header not be sufficient for erasing the eeprom? Why do most people in this forum choose to solder to the router directly? This is rather counter-intuitive to me as personally I won't like to solder to the board directly.
or is soldering to the board necessary in order to connect pin-1 to pin-14 with a 100ohm resister?
any clarification is very much appreciated, |
|
voiploverPremium join:2004-05-28 Portsmouth, NH | 1st all the resistors should be connected through the JTag cable. Next, if your router came with header pins for a Jtag cable the you don't need to install them. Otherwise you will need to do some soldering. Always solider from the bottom side through to the top side of the PCB board. |
