Re: WRTP54G-ER JTAG Unlock using windows Thank you for the clarification. It turns out that my wrtp54g does not come with header-pins, so me and my shaking hand will have a lot of fun soldering. Will report back once it is done.
thx, |

3 edits | When you solder the header pins, the holes that connect to ground and V+ planes are very difficult to solder. Fortunately, you can use the nearby header pins for ground and V+:
1) Don't solder anything to hole 2,4,6,8 and 10; instead, use pin 5 at the left. Hole 12 is easy to solder with.
2) Don't solder the 100 ohm to hole 14; instead, use pin 1 at the left.
3) I don't solder the grounding wire to the case metal.
Without having to solder 2,4,6,8,10 and 14, it is then a very easy soldering job. Works great for me. |

N6EA join:2007-08-01 Jamestown, CA | reply to voiplover I ordered one of the Fry's 29.95 specials last week. Screwed around with the HTTP server stuff and never could get things working. I finally did the JTAG (homebrew from parts) and it was easier than I thought it would be. Thanks to all that have helped with this device and especially the JTAG method. I now have a WRTP54G-NA (Was an ER) |

 | I just got a WRTP54G-ER from Fry's. I wanted to check if this one is good or not, so I just hooked it up with my Comcast cable modem and computer, just using it as a normal router. It only worked for a few minutes, and then did not show any internet connection. I noticed that the firmware has been upgraded from 1.0.48 to 3.1.14 without any notification by itself.
Can I still use JTAG cable to unlock this router now with Firmware 3.1.14 from earthlink? Or, should I just return it to Fry's? Thanks a lot for any suggestion! |
|
 | Yes, you can still use JTAG to unlock it. In fact the last one I bought came with 3.1.14 and I could unlock it using JTAG. |

I read the thread all the way down but confused. Do I need open the router and the pins are inside? if so, is the JTAG cable small enough to fit inside the router? Thank you guys in advance. |

 | reply to pengdaya As mazilo said, you will have the answer. Send me an email, and perhaps I can show you something though I am still having a problem. |
|
 | reply to stonedoor Got my problem solved. It was caused by long wires without shielding. Short wires worked immediately.
I used a scheme which combines MAPS, Fixup, Voiceipuse and VOiplover's:
(1) Parallel cable's 18~25 are connected together at port side (it was like that), the other side is connected with JTAG pin#12, Serial pin GND (Most Right Side)
(2) JAG pin#1 + 100Ohm + JTAG pin#14
The others are the same.
Thanks a lot for all the information providers! You guys have done a great thing! |

Pardon me for the question. I'm just getting my feet wet and electronically challenged.
Thanks. |

I only wish that I have checked this forum again before I attempted to solder it. With a help of a friend we managed to JTAG the router, but you were right: soldering the ground-pin took a long time with the low-wattage soldering gun.
I then proceeded to upgrade the firmware to 3.1.24. Did anyone noticed that, under the "voice" tab, it says the the firmware is *3.1.22* on the top-right corner of the web-server?
Also, I could not find any QOS setting for the voip (where in my old wrtp54gp2 there is a QOS setting deciated to voip). Is it just not needed with wrtp54g?
I do experience some disconnection with wrtp54g during a heavy download. Hence my question.
any help is very much appreciated, |

 | reply to voiplover I backup the flash using debrick 4.8 version. when I try to erase, it says the following. The TI chip is TNETV1060GDW. It is able to backup 00040000 from b07c0000. How do i erase the flash. In 4.8 /fc:55 is MX29LV800BTC 512kx16 TopB (1MB). Since b07c0000 outside the flash window, it is not erasing. Do I need to give a different /fc. Has anyone faced this issue.
