I like SpySweeper except for the fact that even if you set it NOT to run in the background, and set the service to "manual" so it can start up only when you start the program to do a sweep, it then resets the service to "automatic" and proceeds to startup automatically again, necessitating a re-visit to services to re-set to manual. For those who prefer it running in the background, this isn't an issue, and it works like a charm for me and those to whom I've recommended it.

Im well protected i think, Have been using McAfee Products since 1998 they haven't failed me yet. Im not one to argue over which AV is superior, you ask 100 people that question you will get 100 answers, and i don't hold much stock in comparitive tests because no Av is 100% perfect, plus you never really know under what conditions certains tests are run. Some apps perform better than others under different circumstances.

In the 'other' category, I believe someone else mentioned Winpatrol. I consider it a part of my antispyware protection since it can alert you to unknown/unwanted processes trying to load at start-up. Like many well-designed products (think Proxo), it can do more than one thing.

Your not far wrong especially both softwares in their current evo's.Both of them have struggled big time against the new stuff and against trojan rootkits they have been abysmal :(

Counterspy and Spysweeper are impressive powerful programs, but they no longer support Windows98SE. I got tired of having to update so many programs and I decided that nothing that Spybot and/or Adaware could detect would slip past BOClean, so I dumped them.

On my wife's new WindowsXP machine I use Windows Defender, SpywareBlaster, and most importantly BOClean to guard against spyware.

PSC promoting BOClean more than just an Anti-Trojan ...

AVG (Ewido) Anti-Spyware was/is primary a AT also. Have not seen AVG (Ewido) Anti-Spyware 7.5 in any recent spyware test/comparisons, but Ewido Anti-Spyware 4.x did not do well against other top spyware apps.

So for resident antispyware/antimalware prevention currently using BitDefender Antivirus v10 and BOClean. Using Super AntiSpyware Free as a second on-demand scanner to BitDefender's Antivirus/Antispyware scanners. I checked Spybot and Spyware Blaster and Avira. There was no way to differentiate between the free Avira and Paid. •Spybot Search & Destroy (Mainly for Tea-Timer, Immunization, and Hosts File.)
•SpyCop
•SpywareBlaster
•SpywareGuard (This one may be redundant or competitive with Tea-Timer, but the SG icon has sat in the system try for so long, I'd feel naked if I got rid of it.)
•Windows Defender (weekly scheduled scans)
•AV or Firewall includes Antispyware - Zone Alarm Pro (weekly scheduled scans)
•Other - Manual additions to the Hosts File on a site by site basis.
