Re: AOL blocking traffic

Your decision to not uninstall anything on your cust's computer is a wise one. If you proved your service worked, then leave it alone and let the cust swim on their own.

If they want AOL on their PC, let it stay. Keep in mind, they have a system of emailing and browsing that they are use to. No need to change that. AOL works just fine over a broadband connection, so there is no loss to your service.

Just keep that demarc of responsibilities clearly defined and it won't bite you in the rear later.

We give customers a 30 guarantee. We ask/sugest that the customer doesn't cancel her current ISP until she is sure she will stay with us. Friday's customer was a new install. The other customer's husband does not want to use anything other than AOL, they pay us and AOL. We've had problems in the past with Trend-Micro's Pc-cillin and Mcafee. I'll take a look at AOL Port magic. I won't uninstall Port Magic, too many bad experiences with being blamed for subsequent problems after my doing something to a client's machine

I've seen a ton of similar issues with users running Norton. Perhaps AOL installed a Norton product? Usually I could just disable Norton for such and such amount of time but some mahcines it just wouldn't let through. Still researching some issues right now. Thought I'd chime in with another possibility?

Try getting rid of that AOL Port Magic from Add/Remove Programs. You may also wanna look at that spyware or whatever firewall junk they included in there. And does this customer really NEED AOL? I hate it.

We installed a new customer on Friday. Her PC could not access the Internet. I installed Firefox and that worked fine, told her to look into why IE7 could not get on the Internet. Today, I had a long time customer who could not access the Internet(IE7) and I installed Firefox but that didn't work. She could get on the Net with AOL's IE7 only(she had two IE7 icons, one AOL's the other was the Windows own version). Both customers use PC's, both had IE7, both are on routers(DHCP), both PC's said "site found, waiting for..." but went nowhere, both could ping www.yahoo.com without a problem, firewalls were turned off. There was nothing obvious blocking access, I checked the settings on both IE7's and they looked normal. Any ideas as to how to disable AOL's block?
