You are looking at total fuel cost, not difference in fuel costs between the two types of vehicle. 18-21 mpg for hybrid vs.16-22 mpg for standard engine (per specs for Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck). That works out to an 11% savings for in-town driving and a loss for highway driving. Assuming only in-town driving, that works out to $11 to $14 savings per week. In a year, that would be a savings of only $572 to $728 and a savings of $2625 to $3640 over a five year lifespan. There is approximately $6000 difference in retail prices between a hybrid and a standard engine Silverado.
Not so obvious savings.
