all this hype about the new series and nothing at all about on line play. This game would be awesome if they made this a 1st/3rd person shooter /mmorpg.Have different professions like drug dealer, pimp, banger, etc,it's endless.Even have cops to do their job(you could be one and get stats that way)There could be houses you could buy/rent make it into crack-house to neighborhood watch outpost lol, battle it out somehow i dunno. The idea is half way there with gta, just make the ai into real life characters along with the ai and have stats.Create a posse of bangers and go turf it out with your on line buddy, better yet sell em some bad shit undercover snitch and take him out while he's all messed up he looses his turf and ends up in the hospital to start over etc.I've seen this in basic form in GTA:SA-MP 3rd party on line mod but its a far cry from what it could be
Rockstar-give the people online play and you'll make a ton of money and save the GTA series from the crap pile |

| No, it would make the game suck about 100x more. Making a game like this into an MMO will make it unfucking playable. How many times are you going to log in when you get blasted out of your hideout every single time you spawn? Yea, don't think so. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever |

| Oh, really?
Every single MMO player only ever talks about is PvP, which essentially boils down to some overglorified deathmatching. All they ever do is spend all this time building up just so that they an go around hunting each other and steal other people's stuff.
With a GTA MMO, you'd never be able to finish a mission because you'd either get capped on the way there, blown up in your own safehouse, or run over by some douche bag as soon as you set foot near any roads along the way. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever |

| Okay, let's review.
Grand Theft Auto, by its design, is a game that encourages random violence and in-game characters killing each other.
MMO's, whether by design or by feature, have a mode that many call "PvP", which in the greater sense of things is an over glorified death match.
In a GTA game, there's really not much stopping someone from going around shooting things from the first level (short of not having a gun to begin with).
In MMO's, players are asses to each other and the high-level people that had no life and spent every waking moment to powerlevel up to something high enough simply go around killing every single new player that just logs in, or go around killing other people until they finally find someone at a similar level, then run away like little b*tches.
Considering that GTA has a lot of weapons available, it stands to reason that a GTA game would be even more frustrating to play, because everyone would simply be camping out the spot where everyone spawns from if not just dropping random grenades in there to blow everyone up before they could even do anything.
There would be no point with the missions because nobody would ever get to do them... they'd all be just plowing each other in whatever random car they could get on and trying to run over each other, jack another's car of someone in mid-mission, etc.
It'd certainly be aggravating as hell to start a new game and get wasted about fifty times just because of the assholes that managed to stay in and play every waking moment to sabotage my ability to be able to participate in any missions on the map. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever |

| reply to C0deZer0 I've been playing online games for awhile, since mudding back in the day. Even back then there was a system in place to make pvp voluntary. Yes most mmo's have pvp, but I'd hope most game developers understand that people logging in and dying isn't going to help sell their game and put in means to stop it.
You talk alot of shit about pvp, but where are you actually going to get a realistic opponent? How can you really test yourself against a computer? not all pvp is deathmatch, or even close, counter-strike being a great example. The second you have to rely on a team or complete an objective its no longer deathmatch. Have you played any online games ever? There's almost always some way to avoid spawning or turn off pvp. Spawn sentry guns/safe zones, pvp enable/disable, level cutoffs, etc.
You talk as if you know how the game is going to be designed, but they spend hours and alot of money on development and beta testing to iron out the very problems you are suggesting. Its all about making noobs happy so the game company can make the most money possible.
And the only asses I've met while mmo'ing are little kids and spammers. Most people are pretty friendly actually.
I re-read your last post and for some reason I think you're just joking. Nobody could really think that way. All your statements sound like they are coming from someone who's never even played online games before. If you're just fucking with me, thats mean. -- the answers to all lifes questions... »www.google.com |

| And what makes you think that a GTA MMO could possibly succeed?
Grand Theft Auto is a game in where you go do missions and cause chaos. And people have certainly tried injecting their own multiplayer modes into the game in some form or another (even Rockstar has tested this feature now and again with San Andreas). All that happens with the computer-side mods to enable multiplayer play are just people being random asses and sabotaging each other on missions or simply grabbing random cars to play chicken with each other. They're certainly not in it to help each other in any way.
Oh sure, there are certain safe zones in various games that opposing players are not supposed to enter save they get shot up. But that doesn't seem to stop plenty from going out of their way to beat their way inside and kill off half the team inside before the sentry/security measure was supposed to off them.
Counterstrike alone's seen more patches than at least half of John Carmack's own games, and even yet they've still yet to solve all the inherent problems with their netcode, the magic headshots issue, and people using speed hacks to be able to warp just outside their opponent's spawn to be able to lay out half the team before they die. This is even more of a problem with sites that do stat-tracking, because then they do it to play the numbers game so they can be "numbah WON!!!1!1!1evelen!" for however long they can keep it.
Hell, even with the MMO's on Xbox Live for example, it is still far too easy for you to be in the middle of a mission and then have someone jump in and steal the one rare item the level was supposed to give you. Given that GTA is supposed to be a game about inciting chaos, what's to then stop someone from simply plowing you out of the road in an ambulance truck/semi/whatever as soon as you try to cross the street to start up a new mission/assignment? -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever |

| I think you've been ruined by a few bad experiences Codezero. Sure there are bad days in counter-strike, hackers have always been a problem. But in my case I found a community and have been an admin there for going on 6 years. One of my best friends is in Chicago. I've never met him or his family face to face but we talk daily on vent. Finding friends is the biggest payoff to any online game, because good stats aren't very lasting.
Every game is going to have a few flaws, and every game has a few jackasses trying to cheat the system, but the majority of players in online games are pretty decent. You've just got to take the good with the bad. And in my experience the good far outweighs the bad.
And like Weirdal says there are a lot of different ways of doing it, no need to make it a RPG. I agree pvp in a gta style game would have its share of problems, but thats what beta testing is for. And damn I'd love to do co-op on gta! -- the answers to all lifes questions... »www.google.com |

They say console version will be available in October 16. So I guess March next year we should expect GTA on PC. I just can't live with that lame console targeting system. I want a mouse. So whichever console implements that in games, gets my money. -- Semper Fi |
