How do I get the Westell 327w to recognize my PC?

When I enable my windows XP firewall, the westell 327w modem/router does not recognize my PC as a connected device. It says "status offline" to every connected PC.

If I disable the XP firewalls it will then see my computers. Is there any way I can keep my XP firewall running and have this modem recognize my computers as connected devices?

I already disabled the 327w's firewall, and all my connections are wired, not even using wireless.

I forgot to mention that the internet does work fine even though the modem/router is not recognizing my computer as a connected device.

It's just that when I log into the westell router and click on "my network" it shows no connected devices.

solar2190,

I'm looking at my 327w to find the "my network" area that you refer to, in an effort to be of assistance. I don't see it in my 327w modem/router. Where do I find that area? In the 327w, I'm looking in the Configuration drop down menu.

Thanks,

Freddy

when I first enter the router I click on the "my network" tab at the top, then on the right side of the page it says network summary, connected devices (Ethernet: 0 Wireless: 0 USB: 0}

It should say Ethernet: 2 because I have 2 computers connected to it.

solar2190,

My Westell 327w has no information as you refer to. I have no idea where this information is. Perhaps some kind soul can post the information and inlighten both of us.

I just got Verizon DSL about a week ago, maybe my 327w has different software than yours? That's the only reason I can think as to why you can't see it.

Talk about blind leading the blind...

I believe the OP's reference to "my network" is the little icon on his Windows XP desktop and not the 327W's browser interface. The XP firewall is doing exactly what it's meant to do... Enabling the 327W's built-in firewall to LOW or MEDIUM and disabling the XP firewall should be OK for most home network applications unless the OP's situation is unique.

I'd rather not use the 327w's firewall, I already have XP's firewall configured to allow all the exceptions and ports that I need.

This problem is not really affecting anything I do online, it's more of an annoyance I guess.

I am also on Verizon with two computers connected to a 327W. I have the same condition in which my Windows 98SE machine is listed as offline on the VersaLink if the ZoneAlarm firewall is running on the Windows machine. The other computer is running NetBSD and always shows online on the Westell.

Can you ping between your two computers? Can you ping from each computer to the VersaLink?

solar2190, you are a wonderful human being. Thanks to your comment about your XP's firewall I did a little more investigation of the ZoneAlarm firewall settings on my Windows computer. I put the Westell VersaLink (IP address 192.168.1.1) and my NetBSD computer (IP address 192.168.1.46) into the ZoneAlarm Trusted Zone. Voila! I can now ping both ways.
