| Lets Go Packet Loss!!!
I live in south Florida, West Palm Beach to be specific, and after switching from Bellsouth to Adelphia (My modem says comcast, my tech support is comcast, so I came to comcast forums) my internet has been horrible. Some days I will get 1% packetloss, and sometimes I will get 33% packetloss. After calling Adelphia and having a techy come to my house, the conclusion arrived at by him and his supervisor was that "Comcast bought Adelphia so thats most likely the problem" anyway a month or so after this, I still get crazy packetloss. As far as load goes, this morning at 5 a.m. I had over 30% packet loss, and couldnt not even surf the internet.
Yesterday When I called Adelphia tech support the guys like "once you dont have over 30 % packet loss you are fine"
Anyone have any input that could help? I dont particularly want to switch to another ISP as not many are available here, and the few that are have slow speeds.
My connection still tests high on the bandwidth meter. i get about 5000 down 568 up.
heres a screenshot from pingplotter »img231.imageshack.us/my.php?imag···adx5.jpg
id post a command prompt ping test but im not getting any packetloss currently (after having the whole morning filled with it)
thanks |

1 edit | Packet(ping) loss at those routers is nothing to be concerned about.
The destination is showing no loss, that is all that matters. The routers you see with "loss" are likely set to give ping requests low priority... no biggie!

1 edit | reply to dadkins Yep, these ping plotter things are a worthless diagnostic for intermediate hops. It means absolutely nothing.
Just think about it for a second .... you have 30% or more "loss" on intermediate hops, but 0% loss to the final destination. If the 30% was real, it would reflect on the destination statistics. |

1 edit | What about the times I use cmd and get 30% packetloss to google and yahoo and yes what you are saying makes sense because currently when I use cmd to ping then I get 1%, but that will change in about an hour or so to the point where I cant do anything |

1 edit | Do a standard tracert and see where the loss starts and if it continues to the destination(s).
Your image showed no loss to the destination - no problem.

| There have been some issues with the transition, so I would not count this out as a possibility.
However, could you possibly run some traces without your router in place? Since your last trace is showing loss through the entire route, it would be starting between hops 1 and 2, you and the CMTS that feeds you.
It could be your router or modem acting up, or something local to you causing an intermittent problem. -- Black and Gold all the way. |
