First of all, what version of Mikrotik are you using? Versions of 2.9.25 and lower have issue with newer Intel based wireless chipsets. Upgrade to something > 2.9.26 and set proprietary-extensions = post-2.9.25.

Also, due to the fact you've got a 15db omni on a tower, depending on it's height, you may not be able to see any signal as a 15dB omni is extremely flat and the signal might be going right over you.

Hopefully you are aware of the FCC part 15 rules in the US (VA) as if you run that SR2 at full power on a 15dB omni with minimal signal loss, your system is trasmitting well above legal limits.

I had an odd problem that maybe related. I have an RB112 with a Compex 200mw AG card in a rootenna. It sees all sorts of traffic and connects to nothing.

After a few frustrating minutes with this beast, I just reset the config to default and then reconfigured. Low and behold, it worked! I really thought I had a bad card, but it was just an odd config issue.

That's my experience anyway.

thanks i will look for that but i did not see it the first time. both laptops that did not work were same model toshibas. the dell works fine.. i am over 1 km from tower with laptop at the moment and recieve signal fine. i do have a high ping time though even right at the tower (35-70ms) to router. i have it set up as a router with nat now and it hands out ip's and does NAT.

Its not a routing issue and has nothing to do with routing if your laptop does not see the SSID then its something on the radio or your laptops. You have already proved to us that another laptop works fine with the way you have it set up. So that leads me to believe something on the laptops.
We are using the sr2 cards not sure what ones you are using? TXT me off line with login info and I will take a look what I see..
Here is a screen shot..

with network stumbler you can see all networks wven if the ssid is hidden so i dont think that the ssid would be the problem but i will try and see. Also the router between the modem and the mikrotik is a linksys and i can conect both toshiba laptops to it.. i can see the linksys in netstubler and the mikrotik can see it when i scan the network also. i am using version 2.9.38 on the winbox and i dont see any options under the wireless tab about proprietary extension.. can you send me a print screen on that? i have it set to both on preamble.

If you had the bridging or routing screwed up it still would not prevent you from seeing the SSID on the radio card as long as you have it set to AP-Bridge It has nothing to do with broadcasting the SSID from the radio card.

What happens if you change ssid to all lower case?

Thats the only thing I see that could affect how a newer windows machine is seeing the SSID? If your partner can connect with his then its NOT the AP it sounds like the laptop you are using is messed up are you sure you have the wireless card turned on with the toshiba?

WIreless should be the package you should have we have never used anything else and we have quite a few of these deployed without any issues.. Couple other things I just thought of was on the wireless tab in winbox there is a box with option of "proprietary Extension" make sure you have it set to "POST 2.9.25"
Under the Advanced tab make sure you have pre-amble set to both as a test we have all ours set to both without any issues.

ok status.. i am using a toshiba A105-S4094 and i can not see the wireless signal my partner has a Dell 640M with VISTA and he can see the signal with his laptop. We have another laptop same as mine with xp pro and it cant see it either. What could this be? I have changed the mode , channel and nothing.. not even with my net stumbler.

my partner gets a ip from the router going to the mikrotik and is able to browse internet. (have bridge set up on router)

Another good tool is MikroTik wireless debug logging:
»wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Wireless_Debug_Logs

But, if you're not seeing your AP at all... I wonder about your bridge or masquerade configuration

Its ant B if your using MMXC connector
When you say it is not "transmitting" are you saying with a laptop right next to the system you dont pick up your SSID? or are you saying you see the SSID but you get no traffic to pass anywhere?

Make sure you create a bridge and assign an IP to it then put both WLAN and Ether 1 in that bridge group and it should work as a genreric bridged AP for testing. ONce you are done testing then you will need to make it a routed setup do do everything else correctly.

Well, maybe your wireless is running, but you don't have your LAN set up right?

The wireless will not show R until a client is associated.

For AP Bridge to forward packets you either have to route or Bridge that interface with an ethernet interface.

i have it on AP bridge , all data rates are selected, tried from a to b , pramble is both, power is on default, tried almost all channels.. any other thing to check? it can see signal but it dont send any. when i look at the interfaces i see that lan1 is (R) running and wlan1 is active but there is no (R) lan2 and lan3 are disabled.

MikroTik Forum might be a better place to pose your questions:
»forum.mikrotik.com/

Though, for best results you might want to post your configuration (so others can see what settings you have).

Also, You might find some answers here: “Wireless Client and Wireless Access Point Manual”

For example this question
quote:
how do i make all clients private from one another.
is answered with this setting:
default-forwarding (yes | no; default: yes) - to use data forwarding by default or not. If set to 'no', the registered clients will not be able to communicate with each other.

For AP you should be on AP Bridge.

Check your data rates and enable all of them for now.

On Advanced under Antenna Mode try switching from antenna a to antenna b (some cards have dual ports, but SR2 should be on antenna a I think...)

Preamble Both, frequency power on default, chech you channels etc.
