Signing up with 3web

Hey guys!
I want to give a try with 3web's cable internet service.
Can somebody tell me how is the service in the Lawrence/Victoria park area ? How are the speeds, any downtimes ?

Please do a search on 3web/CIA , if after reading the reviews you still want to sign up with 3web/CIA then please seek a mental health appointment.

I am Danforth and Woodbine area. I went with 3 web cable because DSL is terrible in my area. That said 3 Web had some major issues which has since been resolved. I get download speeds of 4.5 Mbs at the moment. 3Web advertises 6Mbs service. 3Webs customer service is terrible. So if you are not tech savvy that could prove to be problematic.

i am still with 3 web because they are $ 29.95 plus taxes verses Rogers @$ 45.00 plus taxes.

good luck

I signed up for their cable service a few weeks ago and everything's been fine so far. Speeds topped out around 6.9Mb / 500Kb at best; currently 5.7Mb / 500Kb, 11:28pm. Neilson / 401 area.

For gaming, pings are around the norm, but I've been noticing a few spikes here and there (to Dallas servers, I believe). A traceroute determined that it's most probably on Cogent's end of things.

Definitely dig the no-throttling.

So far so good. I highly recommend 3web.

I would like a modem with more then one ethernet ports where I can buy one?
Is better renting or buying?

Nope, I bought my own Motorola Surfboard SB5101 from The Source; figured it'd be cheaper to get it from a store for $114 rather than pay $125 + taxes from 3web.

I think what you're looking for is a switch / router. You want to split the connection, right?

I'd say, for long-term use, it's better to buy. I don't know what 3web's policy is regarding the rental fees, but after approx. 20 months, you would've already spent the amount that the modem was worth. Of course, there's always a gamble involved: if you decide that you dislike the service, you're now stuck with the modem, in which case, renting isn't such a bad idea.

Yap, I have a switch and a router but I still would like a modem with multiple ethernet ports if I can find one somewhere, from my experience with dsl is better then a switch or a router.

DSL... I'm thinking you have the 2wire modem.

I don't see what the big deal is though. As far as I know, most - if not all - of the cable modems available here have only a single port.

What do you think will it work with 3web service?

Figured. Just stick to using a modem + router, if for cable.

That modem will work, but just make sure to grab revision 3.0 (I think), as the previous ones had some problems.

If you do a lot of torrenting, I suggest to look elsewhere. This modem's been known not to handle many simultaneous connections very well. Of course, I'm not sure if version 3.0 remedies this, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, either way.

Ya its not that easy to find a cable modem like a dsl one if I will I'll try the switch first see how it goes if not stable I'll try the router anyway any other stores that you know that sell cable modems?
