| reply to nozero Ahhh, FINALLY!!! I can now add my two cents' worth to this thread!
I have to say, NZ, that I totally approve of your new pupper, and I love his ears!!! I think in time that things will work out with all the dogs; Rockie just needs time to adjust to his new home and to his new "cousins".
CONGRATS on the new arrival!!!!!

| reply to nozero The lady that called was kind enough to give me her permission to post her email. -------------- Dear Michael, Thank you so much for the links to your photos and web sites. You have an awesome tribute to Rockie, Zoe and your other pets. I have never seen anything like it! I thoroughly enjoyed viewing the pictures and reading all of the comments. In fact, I just finished looking at everything for the third time. It is wonderful to see Rockie without bars in front of his face. Rockie waited a long time to "find" a new family. He arrived at the shelter on Jan. 31, 2007. We spent many hours together between the time he first arrived and the day you took Rockie home. Rockie was one of my favorites and remains in my heart. I always brought him treats, took him for romps in the play yard, walks, and talked to him, too. I feared that he would become depressed over time, but he never did. As a matter of fact, at one point Rockie came down with a cough and was moved to one of our livestock areas to segregate him from the rest of the dogs. He was there when the picture was taken of him in front of the igloo dog house. We gave Rockie antibiotics to help him get well. We all loved him! Once over his cough, he was returned to his kennel and back up for adoption. We don't always have a livestock area open, but everyone went out of their way to keep Rockie safe and as healthy as possible. I enlarged your vet bill to see it and guess what? The vet you took Rockie to is MY vet! I live close by and worked at Arlington South Veterinary Hospital until I had rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder last year. The have three vets, all women, Angela is the owner. One vet is out on maternity leave about to have "twins!" Angela gave Rocky a booster for distemper, parvo, etc. (DHPPC) because the shelter gave him his core vaccinations way back in January when he first arrived. Since no one knows his prior vaccination history, the booster was to ensure Rocky has enough immunity to the viruses built up in his system. And I also use Revolution, same weight range you are using, but I have three dogs that use the same weight range as you do and one dog that uses a lower dosage. I didn't quite know how to "reply" in html on your site, but FYI- the shelter gives all the dogs, prior to leaving the shelter: a kennel cough vaccine (bordetella) as well as a seven-in-one combination vaccine that "includes" the distemper, parvo and parainfluenza vaccinations plus a few more. Adopters then need to follow-up with a vet for a rabies vaccine and any booster shots necessary. Rockie was given his vaccinations at the shelter in advance of his adoption because he was residing in the shelter's safe house (Building C). Every dog placed in Building C gets vaccinated prior to being placed in that building. These dogs have an "extended" time (though not an indefinite time) in which to find a new home so we vaccinate them in advance to keep them all as healthy as we can. We try to select our "cream of the crop" dogs to place in Rocky's building when space permits us to do so. The kennel manager, the kennel techs and myself continually walk the kennels looking for special dogs to move to that building. They can be ANY breed, ANY age, ANY size. Also, often a vetted dog who comes in as an "Owner Surrender" like Rocky did is also placed in Building C. Rockie was already neutered, sweet as could be and appeared in good health. That all earned Rockie an immediate placement in the safe house. The City of Arlington is NOT a no-kill shelter, shelters operated by cities rarely are. However, they have a caring and compassionate staff at Arlington and do everything in their power to help me find new homes fro as many dogs as possible. They are extremely supportive in providing extra care or medicine or whatever I need to help one of my special canines. The kennel manger has actually helped me "nurse back to health" a favorite Rottweiler who arrived as a stray emaciated. He is now living as grand as Rockie! As for not liking Luna, it might be a territorial thing and hopefully it will pass as Rockie gets to know her better and feels less threatened. Right now, Rockie might think he's going to be replaced by every new dog who comes to visit. You might try allowing Rockie to meet Luna on the street or sidewalk, away from your actual home, on her next visit (before she comes into HIS yard) and see if that makes any difference. Again, thank you for adopting one of my favorites. Feel free to keep us apprised of Rocky's progress. As I told your wife, the shelter is trying to establish a place to post "Success Stories," in a place other than Petfinder. Photos and updates are always appreciated. I mentioned I have four dogs; two purebred chows, one chow mix and one collie/shepherd mix. Thought I'd share my PB pics with you. All my dogs have been rescues, all four are neutered males. See Choo and Grizzly below my closing.
