Oh and another thing. You completely misread what I posted if you think I'm saying it only affects speed tests. That's absurd and I made not claim of that sort. It does, however, give the appearance of a connection that might be that speed, sustained, which is most certainly is not. For those not as technically savy, they might wonder why the speed test says 2MB/s, and they only download at 800-900KB/s. -- "Hey honey! Do you think KFC's still open?" |

4 edits | reply to deblin Please tell me how I mis-read what you said:
You: "It's going to make your speed tests look artificially fast, sure. But in reality it's not that big a deal for a long download, or upload.
I think it's just a gimmick so people run a speed test and give the artificial impression that they have 16M/1M or something, when they don't.
I called B.S. - I didn't mis-read what you said.
Your post made is sound pretty clear that you were calling this a "gimmick" and that it was "artificially fast" and it "gives the artificial impression that they have 16/1" when they don't.
First off, comcast, nor any ISP, sells their speeds based on any speed test sites. If ANYTHING is not true it's most all those speed test sites. Comcast, since they are the biggest user of the power boost technology, NEVER makes a claim that it's 16/1 service at all. They make it VERY CLEAR that it's a "temporary boost of speed" to make your fast connection "seem" even faster...
Further, those not as technically savvy generally don't go to speed test sites in the first place nor would they base their service speeds on such tests - idiots and the self entitled people would make claims of speeds on those tests. EVEN if those less tech savvy did, so what? Just because someone looks at their speedometer and thinks because it says 120 that they can drive 120 makes it right either. You may like to lower the curve for those who have no clue, but I don't. I believe in survival of the fittest. Many people want to have computers, high speed, and all the technology that goes with it to "play" on the internet but they don't want to take the time to really understand what they have.. for that, I say too bad.. learn!
I'm sorry,.. I'm glad you try to correct yourself - but you said what you said and there's no denying that. You made claims and now you want to back pedal and say you didn't. Re-read your own post.. -- "Complaining is the least path of resistance for the self-reitchous and lazy ... those who also never take the time to point out a good fortune when the opportunity presents itself. It says a lot about one's moral character." - Unknown |

Yes, I said I think it's a gimmick and I still do. You can think what you want, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a difference of 2% for a 700MB file, if it even boosts, as it sometimes does not.
But as Netbum said, this is OT, so I'll drop it. Apologies to the OP. -- "Hey honey! Do you think KFC's still open?" |

said by jasqid :I thougnt a new thread could be in order and possibly sticky'd for member TRACKING of NEW Market Launches of Upload PowerBoost. If after doing a power cycle and you are on the 6000/384 tier and start seeing ~1000 uploads, you got the boost. If on the 8000/768 (performance plus) tier and are now seeing ~2000 upload, you got the boost! Reading the Chicago thread we know it's in Chicago and some surrounding burbs. Parts of KY and VA have reported launches as well. It has been reported that all markets should have the boosted upload by end of May 07. Please include your details below: . --

my local office says we have it, i don't have it here out of the Augusta, GA office, all i have are service issues every week or two combined with requests for service that get ignored (as in they never call or show up when i schedule a service call), it just went out about 20 minutes ago, so i call, now it's back on and deathly slow, expecting it to go out any minute now so i can wait until Friday for a service tech to not call or show up, at which time it will likely come back on for another week as if by magic |

well I just turned off my QoS and ran a speed test....it shot up to 1 Mbps and stayed there until exactly when the speed test finished then it dropped to 750....I am not seeing what everyone else is but I am guessing its the first step toward upload power boost? -- "While preceding your entrance with a grenade is a good tactic in Quake, it can lead to problems if attempted at work." -- C Hacking |

Depending on what, where and how many connections I use... I can pull upto 3.5MB/sec for ~50MB. For a while there, I was pulling that same 3.5MB/sec for hundreds of MB.
Here is an actual download at 3.47MegaBytes/second(see pic). -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |
