McAfee even did that with version 1.99.1 and past versions.

Note:
Users of Panda and Dr.Web will also be complaing about the same problem with this V2.

FYI..

Thread in English back in 2005 and response quoted from merijn..

Im trying to fix a problem with my comp, but when i dowload Hijackthis after 3 minutes mcafee cleans it and says its a virus. Why is it doing that isnt Hijackthis a virus free program?

McAfee 8.0i also removed Spybot S&D. What Ver. of McAfee are you useing ?

Subject: McAfee showing Hijackthis as virus

Reply:
Have you updated your McAfee yet? Also make sure you're using the latest version of HijackThis (1.99.1). The following is a quote from the author...

[Update] It seems McAfee is detecting the new HijackThis version as W32/Generic.worm!p2p. It is not the first time this happened and probably not the last time either. There is no virus in HijackThis. McAfee incorrectly detects the PE compression method I use on all of my programs as a generic Kazaa worm. I will try to contact McAfee about this and see if the incorrect detection can be removed in their next update.
[Update 2] Success! McAfee has put out new definitions that no longer detect HijackThis 1.99.1 as a virus. ^_^

Not a peep out of Dr. Web, here. Although I'm running a beta of Dr. Web with an improved AV engine.
